Thailand’s Olympic medalist Worapoj Petchkhoom is reportedly upset after learning that he has been banned from the national amateur boxing squad for three months and excluded from the upcoming SEA Games for modeling for a gay magazine, while the Thai boxing chief General Taweep Jantararoj says Worapoj would not be qualified for the SEA Games anyway due to his poor performance and discipline.

Worapoj, who won a silver medal from bantamweight boxing at the Athens Games, was reportedly upset when learning of the ban, saying he was not treated as favorably as some other national squad members.

In response, General Taweep said the three-month ban on Worapoj is the lightest penalty the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand (ABAT) could force on him for the boxer’s decision to appear scantily-clad in the gay magazine.

He also said Worapoj would not be qualified for the SEA Games in Laos at the end of this year even without the ban, as the athlete did not follow a good discipline and often skipped training, resulting in poor physical condition.

General Taweep said he did not favor any particular national squad member and would treat each of them equally and promote them by their ability and discipline. He praised Worapoj for possessing talents and experiences that are superior to his international rivals in the same weight class, and said Worapoj would be summoned to the national squad when the ban has expired.

ไม่หวิว"วรพจน์"ก็หลุดซีเกมส์

หลังจากที่พลเอกทวีป จันทรโรจน์ นายกสมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย ประกาศแบนวรพจน์ เพชรขุ้ม ฮีโร่เหรียญเงินโอลิมปิกเกมส์ 2004 เป็นเวลา 3 เดือน เนื่องจากไปถ่ายแบบในนิตยสารประเภทชายรักชาย และจะส่งผลทำให้หลุดทัพซีเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 25 ที่ลาวโดยปริยาย ทำให้นักชกหนุ่มจากสุราษฎร์ธานีฉุนขาดและออกมาตัดพ้อว่าตนไม่ใช่ลูกรักเหมือนนักชกร่วมค่ายทีมชาติบางคน

เรื่องนี้พลเอกทวีปเผยว่า ตนยังไม่ได้คุยกับวรพจน์โดยตรง สมาคมได้มีการพิจารณาบทลงโทษอย่างเบาที่สุดแล้ว และถ้าวรพจน์ไม่โดนลงโทษก็ไม่มีสิทธิ์ติดทีมชาติไปซีเกมส์อยู่ดี เนื่องจากตลอดระยะเวลาการเก็บตัว ตนได้รับรายงานจากฝ่ายเทคนิคฯ และสต๊าฟโค้ชว่า วรพจน์ ไม่ปฏิบัติตัวเป็นนักกีฬาอยู่ในระเบียบวินัยที่ดี ซ้อมบ้าง ไม่ซ้อมบ้าง สภาพร่างกายไม่มีความพร้อมที่จะไปแข่งขันได้ ส่วนตัวไม่มีความคิดแยกเลือกรักนักมวยคนใดเป็นพิเศษ ทุกคนตนให้ความสำคัญเท่ากัน การจะได้ติดทีมชาติหรือไม่ขึ้นอยู่กับความสามารถตัวนักมวยและระเบียบวินัยการฝึกซ้อมเป็นเรื่องสำคัญ

สำหรับตนนั้นวรพจน์ยังเป็นนักชกมีฝีมือและประสบการณ์เหนือกว่านักมวยในรุ่นเดียวกันในโลกนี้ และหลังจากพ้นโทษแล้วจะเรียกตัวมาฝึกซ้อมตามแผนของสมาคมที่วางไว้ โดยเฉพาะกับเป้าหมาย 2 เหรียญทองโอลิมปิกเกมส์ 2012
