Athens Games silver medalist bantamweight boxer Worapoj Petchkhoom, who has caused a stir in his home country Thailand for appearing nearly naked on the cover of a gay magazine, says the images are considered “sporty” rather than obscene, while the Thai amateur boxing chief General Taweep Jantararoj says he will conduct an inquiry session on the matter as national athletes are supposed to uphold good image.

Worapoj said he thinks his scantily-clad images in the gay magazine STAGE, including the one on the cover, are “sporty” and not obscene, and he did not think it was a serious matter when he agreed to model for his friend at the magazine.

“It is just a magazine. They wanted images that show aspects of the sport, so I went to the shooting. And I did not show my manhood or anything, it is just muscles and biceps, which I consider quite sporty,” said the boxer.

“Therefore, my fans should not think about it too much, and they should not be worried either. I will not disgrace the reputation of the country and I am still ready to come back to serve the nation.”

General Taweep, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand (ABAT) said he had made it clear to all members of the national squad that they must uphold the good image of national athletes, especially when they are taking outside jobs or activities.

He said he would conduct an inquiry on Worapoj before making any decision on the matter, as he did not understand why the boxer did it.

Worapoj is still a national squad member, although he is not selected to compete for Thailand at the World Championships 2009 in Milan, Italy, on September 1-12.

วรพจน์โต้ถ่ายนู้ด-แค่สื่อภาพกีฬา เสธ.วีปรอสอบเหตุผลก่อนพิจารณาโทษ

ตาม ที่มีข่าวว่าวรพจน์ เพชรขุ้ม ฮีโร่โอลิมปิกของไทย เจ้าของเหรียญเงินมวยสากลสมัครเล่นปี 2004 ที่กรุงเอเธนส์ ประเทศกรีซ สลัดผ้าถ่ายนู้ดลงปกนิตยสารรายเดือนปลุกใจชาวสีม่วงฉบับหนึ่ง ซึ่งแม็กกาซีนนั้นมีชื่อว่า STAGE เป็นฉบับครบรอบ 3 ปี ซึ่งทางวรพจน์ เพชรขุ้ม ยอมรับว่าได้ถ่ายแบบนิตยสารดังกล่าวจริง

ด้าน"เสธ.วีป"พล เอกทวีป จันทรโรจน์ นายกสมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทยฯ เผยว่า ในส่วนเรื่องของวรพจน์ นั้นจะต้องมีการสอบสวนกันก่อน แต่ตนนั้นได้เคยกำชับและย้ำอย่างหนักแน่นกับนักชกทีมชาติทุกคนให้ตระหนักว่า การจะออกไปรับงานพิเศษใดๆ หรือทำกิจกรรมใดๆ นั้น ต้องนึกถึงภาพลักษณ์ในฐานะนักกีฬาตัวแทนทีมชาติไทยเป็นสำคัญ อย่างไรก็ตาม ในกรณีของวรพจน์นั้น ยังจะต้องเรียกตัวมาสอบถามเหตุผลข้อเท็จจริงโดยละเอียดกันก่อน ว่าเจ้าตัวกระทำลงไปเพราะเหตุใด สำหรับผลงานในการเตรียมแข่งขัน มวยสากลสมัครเล่น ในนามทีมชาตินั้น วรพจน์ไม่ได้ติดทีมในชุดปัจจุบัน ซึ่งจะเตรียมเดินทางไปแข่งขันเวิลด์แชมเปี้ยนชิพ 2009 ระหว่างวันที่ 1-12 ก.ย.นี้ ที่นครมิลาน ประเทศอิตาลี

ทางด้านวรพจน์ อดีตเหรียญเงินโอลิมปิก ที่กรีซ แม้จะผิดหวังชวดเหรียญในโอลิมปิก 2008 ครั้งล่าสุดที่ปักกิ่ง และหลุดโผทีมชาติล่าสุด เจ้าตัวเปิดใจถึงการรับงานถ่ายแบบขึ้นปกแม็กกาซีนว่า เป็นเพราะรู้จักกับรุ่นพี่เป็นคนในวงการหนังสือดังกล่าว และก็ไม่ได้คิดอะไรลึกซึ้ง "มันเป็นนิตยสาร เขาอยากได้ภาพในแบบลักษณ์ของกีฬา ก็เลยไปถ่าย เพราะไม่ได้โชว์ของหวงอะไร เพียงแต่โชว์กล้ามเนื้อส่วนสัด กล้ามท้อง ผมมองเป็นแนวกีฬามากกว่า ดังนั้น แฟนๆ อย่าคิดมาก และไม่ต้องกังวล ผมจะไม่ทำให้เสื่อมเสียชื่อเสียงประเทศชาติ และยังพร้อมจะกลับมารับใช้ชาติอย่างเต็มที่เหมือนเดิม" วรพจน์กล่าว
