Thailand’s Usanakorn Kokietgym has become the new WBC female bantamweight title holder after beating Bulgaria’s Galina Koleva Ivanova yesterday.

Ivanova lost her title to the Thai challenger by unanimous decision of 97-93, 96-94, and 92-92 after 10 rounds of fight at the match held in Usanakorn’s home province of Nakorn Ratchasima on October 5.

Usanakorn was reportedly performing well and able to land many good hits, but became injured in the ninth round, from a head clash. The Bulgarian pushed harder in the last two rounds, but it was already too late for her to turn the table.

According to a Siam Sport newspaper report, Usanakorn said after the match that Ivanova is considered a highly agile and skillful fighter but does not possess enough strength to beat her.

Ivanova said she has tried her best and accepted her loss, but would not give up and would return some day to reclaim to the WBC title.
