Thailand’s muaythai athletes have swept gold medals in all the nine weight classes it competed at the first Asian Martial Arts held in Bangkok and Suphanburi last week.

All the nine finalists of the host country were able to beat their opponent and claimed the medal, starting at the female 48-kilogram event with Molthira Vatanapackdee who fought Jenny So from Hong Kong in the finalist.

Throughout the four rounds, So was pressuring Molthira with punches and able to land a hit early on, while the defensive Thai mostly employed kicks and knees. Molthira eventually won the bout with good kneeing, although she nearly lost the bout to the Hong Kong opponent’s punch.

In the male 51-kilogram class, Virapong Nonting, who is also known by his ring name as Yiumyut Paradorngym, fought Thongbang Zeuaphomfrom Laos. The smaller Thai fighter had no choice but to be the aggressive, taking kicks and knees from the Laotian, but was able to engage and gain control of the game by the second round.

In the third round, the Thai was kicked hard was he tried to move forward, but at the end of the round he scored some with thrust kicks. In the last round, both fighters seemed to avoid direct engagement and the bout ended with Virapong wining the second gold medal for Thailand.

In the female 51-kilogram class, Kornnika Nuanboriboon, also known as Ningmuay Jornguan Gym, fought Laotian Paylor Xaypao. The taller Kornnika was mostly trying to counter the aggressive Laotian with kicks.

In the second round, Kornnika switched role to launch offensive kicks, but only for a while before she exchanged a knee with two swing kicks from the Laotian. At the end of the round, the two were exchanging kicks and the Thai fighter, who seemed somewhat unable to hold a firm stance, took two punches as she stepped back to launch a kick.

However, in the last round, Kornnika landed two counter kicks and a thrust that put her opponent down to the canvas. Paylor seemed to lose her morale since, allowing the Thai to win herself the gold medal.

In the male 54-kilogram class, the finalist bout of Thailand’s Sattra Paleenaram, or Yodkwan Pomkwannarong, and Laos’ Noukhith Ladsaphao did not see much excitement in the first two rounds as the two focused on timing and countering.

However, Sattra switched to an offensive stance in the third round and pushed Noukhith into the rope before beating him hard with kicks, following by some grabbling and kneeing session.

In the last round, Sattra was simply maintaining his upper hand status, while cruising to win the fourth gold medal for the Thai team with out much difficulty.

In the female 54-kilogram class, Thailand’s Prakaidao Pramari, or Chomyutying Kiatnorwor, faced Liu Jia from China. The agile Prakaidao grappled her opponent for some good kneeing before throwing her to the canvas at the end of the second round.

The Thai landed two more knees in the third rounds and many other attacks in the last. Liu endured the strikes and was able to counter the Thai with a punch, but it was not enough to save her from losing the gold medal to Prakaidao.

In the male 57-kilogram class, Thailand’s Kittisak Boonsemsen, or Sakmongkol Lukprabaht, fought the much larger Nhuyen Tran Duy Nhat of Vietnam. The Thai was relentless at grabbling and kneeing, and took a warning for landing a knee on the falling Vietnamese in the second round.

In the last two rounds, Kittisak continued to score with knees and was able to throw his opponent to the canvas several times. He won the match and added one more gold medal to the Thai team

In the female 57-kilogram class, Thailand’s Sararat Kongsawang, or Nongnan Dejrat, met Chen Qing from China in the finalist. The Thai had a bad beginning after getting a punch while she was stepping back.

Afterward, she focused on engaging with the Chinese and turned the tables with kneeing techniques, which Chen seemed to have no way to counter. Sararat continued to use the kneeing strategy until she won Thailand another gold medal.

In the male 60-kilogram event, Weerapol Kwangkhwang, or Weerapol Kiatsingnoi, was seen was the superior fighter who was able to control the game with timely kicks and knees. His Filipino opponent Zaidi Laruan did not seem to have a way to fighter back and let the Thai win the gold medal.

In the male 63.5-kilogram, Sakdithat Sakdarat, also known as Thanasak Muangchaiyaphum, fought Zhang Xiaolong in an action-packed bout that ended in the first round with Zhang’s bloody nose from the Thai fighter’s elbow. Sakdithat earned the gold medal by technical knockout.

In total, the Thai team has swept gold medals in all the nine events it competed. In other muaythai events, two gold medals go to Kazakhstan, while Laos, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, and Iraq each won a gold medal.

The two muaythai associations of Thailand will receive prize money of 1.8 million Baht, as the Thai government said it would award 200,000 Baht for each gold medal.

รุ่น 63.5 กก.ชาย ศักดิธัช ศักดาราช เป็นคนสุดท้ายของทีมไทย ชื่อมวยไทย ธนะศักดิ์ เมืองชัยภูมิ เจอกับ เซีย หลงฉาง โดย ศักดิธัช เดินลุยตั้งแต่ระฆังดัง ดุดันเต็มที่ ไล่เตะ หลงฉาง มวยหมัดหนักเหวี่ยงหมัดบวกเจอศอกเต็มหน้า เลือดไหล ดั้งจมูกมีปัญหา เลือดกำเดาออกไม่หยุด จนแพทย์ต้องขึ้นมาดู และก็บอกอันตรายชกต่อไปใม่ได้ "ศักดิธัช" ชนะทีเคโอยกแรก คว้าทองที่ 9 ให้ไทย ทำสถิติส่ง 9 รุ่นได้ทั้ง 9 รุ่น

2 สมาคมรับอัดฉีดรวม 1.8 ล้าน

จากการที่รัฐบาลจะอัดฉีด เหรียญทองละ 2 แสนบาท และมวยไทย ที่มี 2 สมาคม สามารถที่จะทำสถิติไร้พ่าย คว้าเหรียญได้ทั้งหมดทั้ง 9 รุ่นที่ส่งแข่ง ทำให้จะได้เงินอัดฉีดรวมถล่มทลาย เป็นเงิน 1.8 ล้านบาท แบ่งออกเป็น สมาคมมวยไทยฯ 1 ล้านบาท ส่วนสมาคมมวยไทยสมัครเล่นฯ 8 แสนบาท
