Thailand's amateur muaythai hindered by associations' rivalry, says writer

The never-ending rift between rivaling Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMAT) and the Muaythai Association of Thailand (MAT) has hindered much development of the amateur sport in this country, says Muay Tu magazine columnist Korn Kritsada.

The sportswriter says amateur muaythai, supposedly the national sport for Thailand, has never reached greatness and is still stumbling due to years and years of directionless development that so far has led to nowhere.

In particular, the blame is on the bitter fighting between the two muaythai associations, each of which so intensely focused on beating the other and claiming authority over the sport, although the two organizations are both legally registered and aims for the same stated goal of popularizing muaythai at the international level.

The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has been reluctant to authorize any of the two to single-handedly supervise national athletes in the previous international sport events. The result was often ridiculous as each association would just end up with more fighting, according to the writer.

Those in power should instead try to force the two organizations to merge into one entity, which would allow muaythai to eventually become the indisputable number one martial art of the world, wrote the columnist.

Sakchai Tapsuwan and Santipab Intarapat, who helm AMAT and MAT respectively, should also let go of their posts as by holding them to themselves they have crippled the sport.

Otherwise, Thailand may miss its chance to sweep gold medals at the upcoming World Martial Arts in Beijing in August and September this year.

However, there may still be hope as all are looking forward for the court ruling on the association merger case, expected to be handed out in late August.

"มวยไทยสมัครเล่น" ซึ่งเปรียบเสมือนต้นแบบ"ศิลปะประจำชาติ" ยังไปไม่ถึงดวงดาวกับเขาเสียที ยังคงเดินต้วมเตี้ยมๆ เหมือนเด็กเพิ่งหัดตั้งไข่มาหลายปีดีดัก ตั้งหลักปักฐานให้มั่นคงกับเขาไม่สำเร็จ

เหมือนกับ "พายเรืออยู่ในอ่าง" วนไปวนมา หาฝั่งไม่เจอ จะเหมาะเคราะห์ร้าย "พายชนกันเอง" อีกต่างหาก

ยังลูกพี่ลูกคน จนกระทั่งทุกวันนี้ แทนที่จะเติบโตเมื่อฝรั่งต่างชาติ "มวยไทยสมัครเล่น" กลับแคระแกรนลง เหมือนคนขาดวิตามินผอมกะหร่องยังกับ "ผีตองเหลือง"

เพราะมัวแต่ทะเลาะกัน "ชิงดีชิงเด่น" ซึ่งกันและกัน เพื่อครองความเป็นหนึ่งเดียวในการ "กุมอำนาจ" ศิลปะประจำชาติ ที่มีมูลค่ามหาศาลทางสังคม

เนื่องจากประเทศไทยมี 2 องค์กร ที่มีบทบาทในการรับผิดชอบต่อมวยไทยสมัครเล่น คือ สมาคมมวยไทยสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย ที่ มี ดร.ศักดิ์ชาย ทัพสุวรรณ เป็นแกนนำ หรือนายกสมาคม

อีกหนึ่งคือ สมาคมมวยไทยแห่งประเทศไทย ที่มี นายสันติภาพ อินทรพัฒน์ เป็นนายกผู้คุมบังเหียน และได้จดทะเบียนเป็นสมาคมถูกต้องตามกฏหมายทั้งคู่

โดยมีจุดหมาย คล้ายกันเด๊ะ การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย ก็เลยไม่กล้าฟันธงให้สมาคมหนึ่งสมาคมใดเป็นฝ่ายรับผิดชอบ ในการส่งนักกีฬา เข้าแข่งขันในทัวร์เม้นท์สำคัญๆ จนบางครั้งยังต้องมีการ "จับติ้ว" หิ้วหวีไปหิวหวีมา ยิ่งกว่าตลก 6 ฉาก หากจะว่าไปทั้ง สมาคมต่างก็มุ่งมั่นสนับสนุน "มวยไทยสมัครเล่น" ให้เป็นหนึ่งในกีฬาประจำชาติให้ชาวโลกได้รู้จักพอๆ กับกีฬาประเภทอื่นๆ ทั่วไป

แต่ที่ยังไปไม่ถึงดวงดาว ก็เพราะแย่งกันทำความดีเพื่อชาติ

ชาติก็เลยพลอยลุ่มๆ ดอนๆ เหมือนคนในชาติที่กำลังแตกแยกเป็นสีๆ สีเหลือง สีแดง สีส้ม เวลานี้

หากผู้มีอำนาจทางการกีฬา คิดดี ทำดี รวม 2 องค์กรมวย ให้เป็นหนึ่งเดียว ได้

มวยไทยสมัครเล่นของไทย จะเป็นที่หนึ่งของโลกในด้าน "ศิลปะการต่อสู้" ที่ไร้เทียมทาน ถึงเวลาแล้วที่ที่คนในชาติต้องหันหน้าเข้าหากัน เพื่อการเจริญเติบโตด้านการกีฬาของชาติไทย

ไม่เช่นนั้น มันก็คงต้วมเตี้ยมเป็นเต่าอยู่อย่างนี้ แล้วจะมีประโยชน์อันใดที่ทำดีแล้วก็จะไม่ได้ดี เพราะมีแต่คนเขาว่า กอดเก้าอี้โกโลโกโสไว้จนขาเดี้ยงไปเอง ถึงจะยอมสละให้เขาชมเสียตอนนี้ ดีกว่าให้คนเขาติในภายหลัง ยังสง่างามกว่า

เพราะอีกไม่กี่เพลาทัวร์นาเม้นท์สำคัญๆ ก็จะมาถึงอีกแล้ว เช่น เวิลด์มาเชี่ยอาร์ทเกมส์ ที่ กรุงปักกิ่ง ประเทศจีน 27 ส.ค.-4 ก.ย. 2553 มวยไทยสมัครเล่นจะต้องเป็นเต้ยในการกวาดเหรียญทองมาครองให้ได้มาก

และในขณะเดียวกันปลายสิงหาคม ทั้งสองสมาคม นี้ก็คงต้องรวมตัวเป็นหนึ่งเดียวสำเร็จตามที่หลายฝ่ายวาดหวัง จากคำพิพากษาของศาลจะเป็นไปตามที่หวังไว้แค่ไหนก็ต้องคอยดูกันต่อไป
