Although the recent Asian Martial Arts Games has ended quite smoothly with some praises to host country Thailand, certain events have shown the organizers as well as many staff of the Thai teams were quite poorly prepared, says a sport columnist.

The Khao Sod newspaper writer, who goes by the alias “Pao Paek”, said the games did not see much trouble and ended smoothly to the relief of many relevant parties, while the host country was satisfied with the wins of 21 gold medals, the highest of all nations, but some action of the organizers had raised eyebrows, regarding their preparedness, or lack of, for some sports.

According to him, the jujitsu judges were unable to answer the reporters on the scoring and matching system and only told them that they were “not sure” about it. The coach of the Thai jujitsu team did not seem to understand the system either.

At the 57-kilogram kickboxing event, the bout of Thailand’s Pongpan Plengsantiea and Kazakhstan’s Birzham Aukenov ended with some chaos and protest that the judges unfairly allowed the Kazakhstani fighter to win.

After some meeting of the Thai muaythai officials and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) as well as the Asian kickboxing federation president, the Thai organizer Santipab Intrapat came out to admit that the Thai fighter failed to score properly and the protesting Thai team apparently did not understand the difference between muaythai and kickboxing rules, said the Khao Sod writer.

The columnist expressed his dismay that the Thai team, including staff, coaches, and athletes, would be this unknowledgeable, and harshly criticized them for not preparing themselves for such an important multi-sport event of Asia.

มหกรรมกีฬาต่อสู้ระดับเอเชีย เอเชี่ยน มาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ที่ไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการแข่งขัน รูดม่านปิดฉากลงไปท่ามกลางความสบายใจของหลายๆ ฝ่าย

ในส่วนของทัพนักกีฬาไทย ขึ้นป้ายเป็นประวัติศาสตร์ในฐานะเจ้าเหรียญทองของการแข่งขันครั้งแรก ที่ไม่มีใครเปลี่ยนแปลงได้

เพราะการแข่งขันครั้งนี้จะเป็นครั้งแรกและครั้งสุดท้าย เพราะในปี ค.ศ.2011 จะยุบรายการนี้ไปรวมกับการแข่งขัน "เอเชี่ยนอินดอร์เกมส์" ที่กาตาร์รับเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการแข่งขัน

หนนี้ที่ไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดศึก มีหลายเรื่องหลายราวให้กล่าวขวัญ

โดยเฉพาะชนิดกีฬาที่บรรจุเข้าไปอยู่ในการแข่งขัน มันออกลูกมึนๆ งงๆ พอสมควร

แฟนกีฬาที่เข้าไปให้กำลังใจจำนวนน้อยนิด ไม่รู้ด้วยซ้ำว่าแข่งกันอย่างไร ให้คะแนนแบบไหน จะได้เหรียญหรือไม่

แต่แฟนกีฬาไม่เข้าใจคงไม่ว่าอะไร เพราะไม่ใช่อาชีพหรือเรื่องที่ถนัด แต่คงแค่เข้าไปดูๆ เพื่อซึมซับบรรยากาศซะล่ะมากกว่า

แต่ที่น่าประหลาดใจ และต้องถามตัวเองว่า "เป็นไปได้ยังไง"

เห็นจะเป็นเรื่องของคนที่เกี่ยวข้องโดยตรง แต่กลับไม่รู้

อย่างกีฬายูยิตสู ที่แข่งขันกันที่อาคารกีฬาเวสน์ ศูนย์เยาวชนไทย-ญี่ปุ่น ดินแดง

เมื่อบรรดาสื่อเข้าไปถามโค้ชไทยรวมทั้งผู้ตัดสิน ถึงการให้คะแนนและระบบการแข่งขัน ใครจะเข้ารอบ ใครจะได้รับเหรียญ

คำตอบที่ได้รับสั้นๆ ง่ายๆ

ยังไม่รู้...ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกัน

จากนั้นมาที่กีฬาคิกบ๊อกซิ่ง รอบชิงฯ รุ่น 57 ก.ก. ที่ พงษ์พันธ์ เปล่งสันเทียะ แพ้ เบอร์ซาห์น เบอร์เกนอฟ จากคาซัคสถาน แบบค้านสายตา ทำให้ประท้วงกันวุ่นวาย

แต่หลังจากที่ นายสันติภาพ อินทรพัฒน์ นายกสมาคมมวยไทยแห่งประเทศไทย ผู้ประสานงานการจัดคิกบ๊อกซิ่ง เข้าประชุมกับสภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย (โอซีเอ) และนายนาสเซอร์ นาสซิรี่ ประธานสหพันธ์คิกบ๊อกซิ่งเอเชีย และดูเทปการชก

แม้ว่านักกีฬาไทยจะออกอาวุธได้หนักหน่วง แต่ไม่ตรงตามกติกาคิกบ๊อกซิ่ง ที่ต้องเตะด้วยปลายเท้าเข้าที่เป้าหมาย ทำให้ไม่ได้แต้ม นายสันติภาพยอมรับว่าเรายังไม่รู้กติกาการแข่งขันอย่างถ่องแท้

ต้องย้ำอีกครั้งหนึ่งว่า "เป็นไปได้ยังไง"

นี่เป็นการแข่งขันระดับชิงแชมป์เอเชีย

นักกีฬาที่จะเข้าแข่งขัน โค้ช ตลอดจนผู้เกี่ยวข้อง ทำอะไรกันอยู่ก่อนหน้านี้ ...ไม่ศึกษากันอย่างจริงจังบ้างเชียวหรือ

หรือว่าทำแค่ผ่านๆ ไป โชคดีไม่มีปัญหาก็รอดตัวไป

แต่มีปัญหามันก็บานทะโร่อย่างที่เห็น

ทำเหมือนเล่นหมากเก็บข้างวัดไปได้
