Thai challenger lost in Tokyo
Tuesday, 06 November 2007

Denkaosan Kratingdaeng Gym of Thailand failed to grabbed WBA flyweight title after the judges decided a draw in his fight against Japanese champion Takefumi Sakata in Tokyo.

Denkaosan, ranked second in the WBA, fired series of power-packed punches against Sakata since the begining of the bout and claimed blood from Sakata in the 7th round. After the half way fight, Denkaosan seemed tired before he allowed the champion to fight back. Thai fighter also recieveed one-point penalty for holding in the 12th round, which decided the outcome of the bout.
One judge counted 115-112 for Denkaosan, the other114-112 for defending champion and the third judge scored 113-113, meaning the match ended as a draw and Sakata still retained the title.

Promoter Niwat Laosuwanwat said he felt pity for the result as he still confident Denkaosan could win even he lost one point in the final round. Niwat also said he would seek a 're-match' between these two boxers.
Pong Thawornwatbutr, Denkaosan's trainer, said Denkaosan has developed his boxing skills and he has higher chance to win the title if he works hard in next couple of months.
