On 25 June 2010, at convention hall 1, Thailand Culture Centre, Mr.Somchat Seanglai, secretariat of National Culture Commissioin, and Mrs.Sunanta Mitngam, director of Research and Development Office, Professor Jarin Thaneerat, honorable president of commission have selected cultural intellectual heritages in order to register them in the field of Thai sports intellect. General Chetta Thanajaro, president of World Muaythai Council, Dr.Sakchai Tapsuwan, secretariat of World Muaythai Council, Mr.Somsak Sirianan, technical president of channel 7 stage, Mr.Sawaeng Wittayapitak, Mr.Anan Meksawan, Mr.Surat Seanglor, and half hundred of academicians were gathered at the meeting and expressed their opinion about registering Muaythai as national cultural intellectual heritage.

In this conference, every side has expressed wide opinions. They supported Muaythai registration. The scope was established in order to keep the history of Muaythai as a crucial database about cultural intellectual heritage existed in Thai territory. In addition, it improves and supports the role of conservation, inheritance, restoration, and protection of Muaythai from disappearance or misuse. This is to support the association of UNESCO cultural intellectual heritage conservation convention.

However, during this conference, there was a suggestion to determine Muaythai in the same way by blending each type of regional Muaythai and use “Muaythai” as a universal word. This will be easier in the development and conservation in world stage. There were many opinions and oppositions at this point. Some participants argued that Muaythai has many branches in each region, including Chaiya boxing, Tasao boxing, Korat boxing. Each type has its uniqueness of its locality. If they are blended together, local Muaythai will be disappeared. The assembly decided to make an appointment for the next meeting to consider on this matter.

สวช.ดันมวยไทยเป็นมรดกภูมิปัญาวัฒนธรรมชาติ

สำนักงานคณะกรรมการวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ (สวช.) เดินหน้าขึ้นทะเบียนกีฬามวยไทย เป็นมรดกภูมิปัญาทางวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ หวังเล็งต่อยอดไปขึ้นทะเบียนในระดับโลกกับองค์การยูเนสโก้ ระดมนักวิชาการเข้าสัมมนารับฟังความคิดเห็น เบื้องต้นทุกคนเห็นด้วยที่จะให้ขึ้นทะเบียน แต่ยังมีปัญหาขัดแย้งด้านรูปแบบแนวคิดที่มีผู้เสนอให้สลายขั้วมวยไทยแต่ละท้องถิ่นแล้วมาหลอมใหม่ในกรอบเดียวกัน

เมื่อวันพุธที่ 23 มิถุนายน 53 ที่ผ่านมา ที่ห้องประชุม 1 ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมแห่งประเทศไทย นายสมชาย เสียงหลาย เลขาธิการคณะกรรมการวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ พร้อมด้วย นางสุนันทา มิตรงาม ผู้อำนวยการสำนักวิจัยและพัฒนา, ศ.จรินทร์ ธานีรัตน์ ประธานคณะกรรมการผู้ทรงคุณวัฒิคัดเลือกมรดกภูมิปัญหาทางวัฒนธรรมเพื่อขึ้นทะเบียนสาขากีฬาภูมิปัญญาไทย, พล.อ.อ.เชษฐา ฐานะจาโร ประธานสภามวยไทยโลก, ดร.ศักดิ์ชาย ทัพสุวรรณ เลขาธิการสภามวยไทยโลก, นายสมศักดิ์ ศิริอนันต์ ประธานเทคนิกเวทีมวยช่อง 7, นายแสวง วิทยพิทักษ์, นายอนันต์ เมฆสวรรค์, นายสุรัตน์ เสียงหล่อ และบรรดานักวิชาการร่วมครึ่งร้อยชีวิต ได้มาร่วมกันประชุมแสดงความคิดเห็นเรื่องมวยไทย เพื่อนำขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นมรดกภูมิปัญญาทางวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ
 
โดยการประชุมครั้งนี้ทุกฝ่ายได้ร่วมกันแสดงความคิดเห็นอย่างกว้างขวางและสนับสนุนการขึ้นทะเบียนมวยไทย โดยมีการวางกรอบไว้เพื่อบันทึกประวัติความเป็นมาของมวยไทยตลอดจนเป็นฐานข้อมูลสำคัญเกี่ยวกับมรดกภูมิปัญญาทางวัฒนธรรมที่อยู่ในอาณาเขตไทย ตลอดจนเสริมสร้างบทบาท ส่งเสริมและพัฒนาให้อนุรักษ์ สืบสาน ฟื้นฟู และปกป้องคุ้มครองกีฬามวยไทยไม่ให้สูญหายหรือถูกนำไปใช้ในทางเสียหาย รวมทั้งเพื่อรองรับการเข้าเป็นภาคีอนุสัญญาเพื่อการพิทักษ์รักษามรดกภูมิปัญญาทางวัฒนธรรมของยูเนสโก้ อีกด้วย
 
อย่างไรก็ตามระหว่างการประชุมครั้งนี้ได้มีผู้เสนอให้มีการกำหนดแนวทางของมวยไทยให้ไปในแนวเดียวกัน โดยหลอมรวมชนิดประเภทของมวยไทยจากแต่ละท้องถิ่นเข้าด้วยกันแล้วใช้คำว่า "มวยไทย" เพียงอย่างเดียว เพื่อความสะดวกในการพัฒนาและอนุรักษ์ในระดับโลกต่อไป ซึ่งจุดนี้ได้มีการแสดงความคิดเห็นกันอย่างกว้างขวางและมีการถกเถียงในหลายประเด็น โดยผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมบางส่วนยังมีแนวคิดว่า กีฬามวยไทยยังมีการแตกแขนงไปในแต่ละท้องถิ่น ไม่ว่าจะเป็น มวยไชยา, มวยท่าเสา, มวยโคราช ซึ่งแต่ละชนิดก็มีเอกลักษณ์เป็นของท้องถิ่น หากมีการย่อยสลายไปก็จะทำให้มวยไทยแต่ละท้องถิ่นถูกลบเลือนไปด้วย ซึ่งที่ประชุมได้มีมติที่จะนัดประชุมเพื่อพิจารณากันต่อไป
