Sakchai promises Thai eligibility in combat games despite unresolved status

Sakchai Tapsuwan, chief of one of the two rival muaythai associations in Thailand, says Thai muaythai athletes will participate in the SportAccord Combat Games this year despite the ongoing legal battle between the two associations.

Sakchai’s Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMAT) and its rival Muaythai Association of Thailand (MAT), helmed by Santipab Intarapat, have had a long history of rivalry and fighting, including an ongoing court case to determine which one of the two will become the official muaythai association representing the country.

Their lobbying attempts against each other in both Thailand and overseas nearly caused muaythai to be excluded from the Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok last year. The muaythai events in the games only received official endorsement at the last minute.

The upset Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), now known as SportAccord, demanded that the two Thai associations merge before December 31 last year or they would be prohibited to join any international competitions.

Sakchai, however, is claiming that the Thai athletes will be able to participate in the upcoming SportAccord Combat Games in August this year, itself a reincarnation of the Asian Martial Arts Games, despite the unresolved status of the two associations.

He said the Thai Supreme Administrative Court would have ruling on the case some time before the combat games and one of the two associations would have to merge into the other, effectively allowing the remaining association to participate in the multisport event.

However, Sakchai claimed that the resulted association must become member of the International Federation of Amateur Muaythai Association (IFMA), which is helmed by Sakchai himself.

เมื่อวันที่ 2 มี.ค.ที่ผ่านมา ดร.ศักดิ์ชาย ทัพสุวรรณ ประธานสหพันธ์มวยไทยสมัครเล่นนานาชาติ (อิฟม่า) และนายกสมาคมมวยไทยสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย เปิดเผยว่า การแข่งขันกีฬาสปอร์ตแอคคอร์ด คอมแบต เกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 หรือชื่อเดิม เวิลด์มาเชียลอาร์ท เกมส์ ระหว่างวันที่ 27 ส.ค.- 4 ก.ย. นี้ ที่กรุงปักกิ่ง ประเทศจีน กีฬามวยไทย จะเป็น 1 ใน 13 ชนิดกีฬาที่จัดการแข่งขันแน่นอน โดยอิฟม่า จะเป็นผู้ให้การรับรอง ร่วมกับคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคสากล (ไอโอซี) ที่รับรองทัวนาเมนต์นี้

สำหรับกรณีทีมนักกีฬาไทยที่จะส่งเข้าชิงชัย ยังต้องรอดูการตัดสินของศาลปกครองสูงสุด ในกรณีที่การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย (กกท.) อุทธรณ์คำสั่งของศาลปกครองกลาง ที่ให้การคุ้มครองการดำเนินการของสมาคมมวยไทยแห่งประเทศไทย (นายสันติภาพ อินทรพัฒน์ เป็นนายกสมาคมฯ) หลังจากที่กกท. เพิกถอนใบอนุญาตไปก่อนหน้า เนื่องจากทำผิดระเบียบ และต่อมาไปรับรองสมาคมมวยไทยสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย โดยคำพิพากษาของศาลซึ่งจะส่งผลให้เหลือสมาคมมวยไทยเพียงแห่งเดียว สมาคมที่เหลืออยู่จะต้องเข้าสังกัดกับอิฟม่า และเป็นผู้ส่งนักกีฬาต่อไป

ส่วนกรณีที่สภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย (โอซีเอ) และสมาคมสหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติ (ไกส์ฟ หรือชื่อใหม่ สปอร์ต แอคคอร์ด) ยื่นคำขาดต่อ 2 สมาคมมวยไทย ให้รวมกันให้ได้ก่อนวันที่ 31 ธ.ค. ที่ผ่านมา มิฉะนั้นจะไม่อนุญาตให้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันรายการนานาชาติที่ 2 องค์กรดูแล แต่ขณะนี้ยังไม่มีการรวมกันได้นั้น ดร.ศักดิ์ชาย กล่าวว่า ในช่วงนี้โอซีเอ ไม่มีรายการแข่งขันใดๆ ขณะที่รายการของสปอร์ต แอคคอร์ต คือ คอมแบต เกมส์จะมีขึ้นปลายเดือนส.ค.นี้ หากศาลปกครองสูงสุดมีคำตัดสินก่อนและทำให้เหลือสมาคมเดียว จะทำให้เข้าแข่งขันได้ตามปกติ

อนึ่ง สำหรับการแข่งขันสปอร์ต แอคคอร์ด คอมแบต เกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 จะจัดชิงชัย 13 ชนิดกีฬา ประกอบด้วย ไอคิโด มวยสากลสมัครเล่น ยูโด ยูยิตสู คาราเต้โด เคนโด คิกบ็อกซิ่ง มวยไทย แซมโบ ซูโม่เทควันโด มวยปล้ำ และวูซู
