The Olympic Council of Asian (OCA) has decided to merge the future Asian Martial Arts Games and the Asian Indoor Games into the same event.

The merger will leave the OCA five international multi-sport events, including the summer and winder editions of the Asian Games, the Asian Youth Games, and the Asian Beach Games, while the new “Asian Indoor-Martial Arts Games” will be held in Doha, Qatar, in 2011 for the first time, said OCA vice-president Lieutenant General Charouck Arirachakaran.

He also said the OCA has resolved in its meeting in Singapore on July 3 that the host country of Asian Games must organize no more than 35 sports, consisting of 28 Olympic sports and seven others that are selected by the host.

The OCA vice-president said the decision would allow for a smooth schedule of both the Olympic and regional games, and there is no need for further change.

According to Thai National Olympic Council president General Yuthasak Sasiprapha, the officials of Singapore have apologized for the recent problems regarding the recent Asian Youth Games that was held in that country, but have confirmed that they would still host the Olympic youth event in the next year.

โอเอซีสั่งรวมอช.อินดอร์-มาร์เชียลอาร์ต

ชีก อาหมัด อัล ฟาฮัด อัล ซาบาร์ ประธานสภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย(โอซีเอ) เป็นประธานประชุมคณะกรรมการบริหารร่วมกับสมาชิก 45 ประเทศ ที่รร.สวิสโซเทล ประเทศสิงคโปร์ เมื่อ 3 ก.ค.ที่ผ่านมา

ภายหลังการประชุม พล.ต.จารึก อารีราชการัณย์ รองประธานโอซีเอ กล่าวว่า ที่ประชุมอนุมัติให้ยุบเกมเอเชี่ยน อินดอร์เกมส์ และเอเชี่ยน มาร์เชียลอาร์ต รวมกันภายใต้ชื่อ "เอเชี่ยนอินดอร์-มาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์" โดยจะเริ่มครั้งแรกปีค.ศ.2011 ที่กรุงโดฮา ประเทศกาตาร์ โดยโอซีเอจะเหลือการแข่งขัน 5 เกมที่เป็นเจ้าของ ได้แก่ เอเชี่ยนเกมส์ฤดูร้อน-ฤดูหนาว, เอเชี่ยนยูธเกมส์, เอเชี่ยนบีชเกมส์ และเอเชี่ยนอินดอร์มาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์

พล.ต.จารึกกล่าวต่อว่า ที่ประชุมอนุมัติจัดระเบียบชนิดกีฬาในเอเชี่ยนเกมส์ว่า ต้องบรรจุ 28 ชนิดกีฬาโอลิมปิกเกมส์แข่งขันรวมกับอีก 7 ชนิดกีฬาที่เจ้าภาพมีสิทธิ์เลือก แต่ทั้งนี้ต้องไม่เกิน 35 ชนิดกีฬา นอกจากนี้ ยังหาแนวทางจัดระเบียบกีฬาทั้ง 5 เกมที่เป็นเจ้าของว่าต้องหมุนเวียนกันในวงรอบ 4 ปีเท่านั้น ซึ่งการตัดสินใจครั้งนี้ถือเป็นความลงตัวที่ดีเนื่องจากเกมต่างๆ ในรอบปีทั้งในส่วนของอาเซียน(ซีเกมส์) และระดับโลก(โอลิมปิกเกมส์) ก็หมุนเวียนจนจะชนกันปีต่อปี ซึ่งในภาพรวมถือว่าลงตัวและไม่น่าจะเกิดผลกระทบต้องยุบอะไรเพิ่มเติม

ด้านพล.อ.ยุทธศักดิ์ ศศิประภา ประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ กล่าวเพิ่มเติมด้วยว่า ทางสิงคโปร์ได้กล่าวขอโทษสมาชิกที่ยังมีข้อบกพร่องหลายส่วนในการเป็นเจ้าภาพเอเชี่ยนยูธเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 แต่ยืนยันว่ายูธโอลิมปิกเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ในปีหน้าสิงคโปร์จะพร้อมเป็นเจ้าภาพอย่างแน่นอน
