“Undying boast”, Somrak Khamsing is on sale. He has officially signed for a match with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Hollywood star at Cannes, France, among hundreds of mass media. This fight will be a reality show that follows Van Damme and Somrak’s activities to compare their training and their daily life. Finally, it will be a real fight on the stage. Correspondent reported that on 14 May, 21.00 p.m. of local time in France, or 02.00 a.m. in Thailand, Mr.Jean-Claude Van Damme, a famous Hollywood star, declared his muaythai contract with “Undying boast”, Lieutenant Somrak Khamsing, a golden medal hero in Olympic 1996, which was the first golden medal of Thailand. Lately, this news comes out continuously.

Such announcement occurred on a ship anchoring at Veyer port in the area of Cannes film festival, France, among hundreds of correspondents.

Jean-Claude Van Damme said that this muaythai match with Somrak is not a regular match but a reality show. It will follow both Somrak and him in training and daily life to compare the difference. Finally, it is going to be a decisive match.

Nevertheless, when asked about the payment he is going to receive from this contract, he did not answer in number but the amount is satisfactory, Somrak replied.

The correspondent made additional report about the program, TV reality show, produced by Van Damme. First 6 weeks will be Van Damme’s background, training, and daily life. Another 7 weeks will be Somrak’s part. Finally, it will be a real fight. This program is going to start around the end of this year or the beginning of the next year in Las Vegas or Dallas, United States of America. About compensation for Somrak, he will receive around ten millions.

โดยการแถลงข่าวดังกล่าว มีขึ้นบนเรือยอร์ชที่จอดอยู่ที่ท่าเรือวีเยอปอร์ก ภายในบริเวณการจัดงานเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติเมืองคานส์ ประเทศฝรั่งเศส ท่ามกลางกองทัพสื่อมวลชนนับร้อยชีวิต

สำหรับเหตุผลที่เลือกสมรักษ์ นั้น นายแวน แดมม์ กล่าวว่า เพราะมองว่าเป็นคนเก่งและเป็นนักกีฬาเหรียญทองโอลิมปิกเหรียญแรกของประเทศไทย ที่สำคัญ สมรักษ์ เป็นคนที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังระดับโลก ส่วนที่มองว่าตนไม่ใช่นักมวยเป็นเพียงนักแสดงนั้น ตนเข้าใจดีและสมรักษ์เองบอกให้รู้ตั้งแต่เริ่มคุยกันที่เมืองไทยแล้วว่า ต้องไม่ใช่แค่ต่อยโชว์แต่ต้องเป็นการชกจริงๆ ซึ่งก่อนจะเริ่มต้นฝึกซ้อมตนคงต้องไปหาหมอให้ตรวจความพร้อมของร่างกายก่อน

ด้าน ร.อ.สมรักษ์ กล่าวถึงเหตุผลที่เซ็นสัญญาชกกับ นายฌอง โคล้ด แวน แดมม์ ว่า ที่ผ่านมามีแต่ไปท้าชกคนอื่นไม่เคยมีใครมาท้าชก เมื่อแวดแดมม์มาท้าชกมวยไทยจะให้ตนปฏิเสธได้อย่างไรเพราะมวยไทยเป็นศิลปะแม่ไม้มวยไทย
 
ตนไม่จำเป็นต้องไปกลัวที่จะรับคำท้า เพราะทันทีที่กรรมการสั่งชกตนสามารถเตะได้เลย โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องรอการสั่งแอ็กชั่น ความจริงแล้วพร้อมที่จะชกได้เลย อย่างไรก็ตามการชกในครั้งนี้มีเงื่อนไขว่าไม่ใช่ศอกซึ่งอาจเป็นเพราะกลัวการใช้ศอกของคนไทย
 
อย่างไรก็ตาม เมื่อถูกถามเรื่องของค่าตัวที่ได้รับการจากเซ็นสัญญาในครั้งนี้ สมรักษ์ กล่าวว่า ตนขอไม่บอกตัวเลขแต่บอกได้เลยว่าเป็นที่น่าพอใจ
