118 countries go to AIBA
World Boxing Championships Chicago 2007
Participating countries climb to 118
The total number of countries registered to compete at the AIBA World Boxing Championships Chicago 2007 has risen to 118 with eight federations having been accepted as additional late entries, for reasons pertaining to unavoidable circumstances in their home country.
The new countries - Costa Rica, Israel, Jordan, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Trinidad and Tobago and Vietnam - filed an official explanation with their entry forms giving AIBA grounds to receive their belated entries.
The AIBA World Boxing Championships Chicago 2007, which also double as the opening 2008 Olympic qualifying event, will be the biggest world championships in AIBA history. The 118 entries stand at 44 more than the previous record of 74 set in 2005.
The tournament will start on October 23 before finishing on November 3. An AIBA Executive Committee meeting and AIBA Extraordinary Congress will also take place on October 21 and 22 respectively.
