The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has assigned its vice president Wei Jizhong to lead the task to coax Thailand’s two rivaling muaythai associations to work together for the upcoming Asian Martial Arts Games.

According to the earlier reports, the organizer of the first Asian Martial Arts Games, scheduled on April 25 to May 3 in Bangkok, has struggled to gain support and fight back threats by the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) due to the two rivaling amateur muaythai associations of Thailand, one of which is an official sponsor of the games while the other a member of GAISF.

The Thai National Olympic Council secretary-general Lt.-Gen. Charouck Arirachakaran said the OCA has assigned Wei the task to avoid troubles with GAISF and to arrange a joint panel consisting of representatives from the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) and Federation of Amateur Muaythai of Asia (FAMA), the international affiliates of the two Thai national associations.

The muaythai judges from IFMA and FAMA will also work together in games, said Lt.-Gen. Charouck, adding that he appreciates the efforts of two rivals to work together by finding a common framework and dividing responsibilities but he does not think that the rivalry will end any time soon.

“It probably will take some time, as either side wants to lose face. So, this will be gradual and both sides must be gentle to each other,” he said.

He also suggested the two associations to end their legal disputes at the court as well.

The games will host competitions of nine martial arts; judo, jujitsu, karate, kickboxing, kurash, pencak silat, taekwondo, wushu, and “muaythai”, which until recently was called “muay” by the organizer, while the athletes from Asian countries will be competing for 112 gold medals.

The organizer has requested all national television networks of Thailand to choose the sports they want to live broadcast, while setting up a broadcast center at the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT). However, the organizer has not decided whether to sell the broadcast rights but will discuss the issue again on March 26.

นายเผชิญ ขำโพธิ์ อธิบดีกรมประชาสัมพันธ์ เป็นประธานการประชุมสสาขาศูนย์ถ่ายทอดการแข่งขันกีฬาเอเชี่ยนมาเชี่ยลอาร์ท เกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ที่กรมประชาสัมพันธ์ ถนนวิภาวดีรังสิต เมื่อ 24 มี.ค. โดยมี “บิ๊กจา” พล.ต.จารึก อารีราชการัณย์ รองประธานและเลขาธิการคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยฯ และผู้แทนสถานีโทรทัศน์ช่อง 3, 5, 7, โมเดิร์นไนน์, เอ็นบีที และทีวีไทย ร่วมหารือ
 
ที่ประชุมได้ร่วมหารือถึงการถ่ายทอดสด เอเชี่ยนมาเชี่ยลอาร์ทเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ที่ไทยจะเป็นเจ้าภาพระหว่าง 25 เม.ย.-3 พ.ค.นี้ โดยได้กำหนดหลักการว่าจะมีการถ่ายทอดสดพิธีเปิดและปิดการแข่งขัน เวลา 17.30-19.30 น. และการแข่งขันกีฬา 9 ชนิด ได้แก่ มวยไทย, คิกบ๊อกซิ่ง, คูราช, ยูยิตสู, ยูโด, คาราเต้-โด, วูซู-กังฟู, ปันจักสีลัต และเทควันโด ชิงชัยรวม 112 เหรียญทอง โดยคณะกรรมการสาขาฯ ได้ส่งโปรแกรมการแข่งขันไปยังสถานีโทรทัศน์ทุกช่อง เพื่อเปิดโอกาสให้ทุกสถานีได้เลือกถ่ายทอดสดกีฬาชนิดต่าง ๆ ก่อนที่จะส่งกลับมายังสาขาถ่ายทอดสด เพื่อจัดทำโปรแกรมถ่ายทอดภายในสัปดาห์หน้า ส่วนศูนย์การถ่ายทอดสดกำหนดไว้ที่ศูนย์กีฬาการกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย หัวหมาก โดยที่ประชุมได้หารือถึงเรื่องลิขสิทธิ์การถ่ายทอดสดการแข่งขันว่าควรจะมี การขายหรือไม่ โดย พล.ต.จารึก กล่าวว่า ช่วงระยะเวลาที่เหลืออยู่อาจจะไม่เพียงพอสำหรับการเจรจาและทำสัญญาการขาย ลิขสิทธิ์การแข่งขัน และไม่แน่ใจว่า ชาติต่าง ๆ จะมีกำลังซื้อหรือไม่ ซึ่งเรื่องนี้สาขาถ่ายทอดสด จะนำไปหารือร่วมกับฝ่ายงบประมาณการเงินและสิทธิประโยชน์อีกครั้ง ในวันที่ 26 มี.ค.นี้
 
“บิ๊กจา” ยังได้กล่าวถึงปัญหาของการจัดแข่งขันกีฬามวยไทย ซึ่งสภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย (โอซีเอ) ได้ดำเนินการแก้ไขพร้อมจัดแข่งขันตามเดิมว่า ส่วนตัวพอใจกับการแก้ไขปัญหาของโอซีเอ ในเอเชี่ยนมาเชี่ยลอาร์ทเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 นี้ แต่การแข่งขันรายการต่าง ๆ ในอนาคตคงต้องตกลงกันอีกครั้ง โอซีเอ ไม่ต้องการมีปัญหากับสมัชชาสหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติ (ไกส์ฟ) จึง มอบหมายให้ นายเว่ย จี จง รองประธานโอซีเอ รับผิดชอบดำเนินการจัดการแข่งขันโดยให้ 2 สมาคมมวยไทยของไทย คือ สมาคมมวยไทยสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทยฯ และสมาคมมวยไทยแห่งประเทศไทย ร่วมกันส่งนักกีฬา โดยให้มีผู้แทนสหพันธ์มวยไทยสมัครเล่นนานาชาติ (อิฟม่า) และสหพันธ์มวยไทยแห่งเอเชีย (ฟาม่า) ร่วมเป็นคณะกรรมการจัดฯ ส่วนผู้ตัดสินก็ใช้ผู้ตัดสินของ “อิฟม่า” และ “ฟาม่า” ร่วมกันทำหน้าที่
 
“ผมเห็นด้วยที่ทั้ง 2 สมาคม กำลังหาแนวทางรวมกันและแบ่งหน้าที่ความรับผิดชอบให้ชัดเจนในระดับภายใน ประเทศและนานาชาติ แต่คงต้องรอเวลาอีกระยะหนึ่งเพราะต่างฝ่ายต่างไม่ต้องการเสียหน้า ต้องค่อยเป็นค่อยไป และต้องนิ่มนวลด้วยกันทั้ง 2 ฝ่าย แนวทางที่ดีที่สุดก็คือการให้การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย และนายศักดิ์ชาย ทัพสุวรรณ ถอนอุทธรณ์ต่อศาลปกครองกลาง เสียก่อน” บิ๊กจา กล่าว
