The General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have agreed to cooperate and set up a joint panel for the upcoming Asian Martial Arts Games to end the rivalry of the two muaythai associations in Thailand.

The GAISF has also softened its stance on the games and now allows its member sports associations to participate in the events. Until recently, for months GAISF vehemently refused to endorse the games and threatened to ban any clubs and athletes who would compete in the events, which, as some authorities pointed out, was due to the two rivaling amateur muaythai associations in Thailand, one of which is the sponsor of the games while the other a member of GAISF.

GAISF and OCA, as well as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) who was acting as mediator, have agreed to set up a joint committee with representatives from both organizations as well as the two rival muaythai associations to select muaythai athletes to represent Thailand in the games via the Thai National Olympic Committee.

The first Asian Martial Arts Games will be held in Bangkok from April 25 to May 3 this year. According to the earlier reports, Athletes from 41 countries are expected to participate in competitions of nine martial arts; judo, jujitsu, karate, kickboxing, kurash, pencak silat, taekwondo, wushu, and “muaythai”, which until recently was called “muay” by the organizer.

2 องค์กรกีฬา สมาคมสหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติ (ไกสฟ์) และสภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย (โอซีเอ) บรรลุข้อตกลง สางปัญหามวยไทย

 สั่งตั้งคณะกรรมการกลางร่วมคัดเลือกนักมวยไทยจากทั้ง 2 สมาคมมวยไทยแห่งประเทศไทย และสมาคมมวยไทยสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย เป็นตัวแทนทีมชาติ เข้าร่วมศึกเอเชี่ยนมาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ขณะที่ ไกสฟ์เริ่ม อ่อน พร้อมอนุญาตให้สหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติที่เป็นสมาชิกรับรองผลการแข่งขันกีฬาด้วย

 ปัญหากีฬามวยไทย ที่บรรจุในการแข่งขัน เอเชี่ยนมาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ที่ไทยจะเป็นเจ้าภาพวันที่ 25 เมษายน-3 พฤษภาคมนี้ นอกจากกรณีองค์กรมวยไทยในประเทศไทยซ้ำซ้อนกัน คือ มีสมาคมมวยไทยแห่งประเทศไทย ที่มีนายสันติภาพ อินทรพัฒน์ เป็นนายกสมาคม และสมาคมมวยไทยสมัคร เล่นแห่งประเทศไทย ที่มี นายศักดิ์ชาย ทัพสุวรรณ เป็นนายกสมาคม ซึ่งยังไม่มีการคัดเลือกนักกีฬาจากสมาคมใดเป็นตัวแทนทีมชาติไทยแล้ว สมาคมสหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติ (ไกสฟ์) ก็ยังประกาศไม่ให้สหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติซึ่งเป็นสมาชิกให้การรับรองหรือเกี่ยวข้องกับกีฬาเอเชี่ยนมาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์อีกด้วย

 ล่าสุด หลังจากทุกฝ่ายที่เกี่ยวข้อง คือ สภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย (โอซีเอ), โอลิมปิกสากล (ไอโอซี) และสมาคมสหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติ (ไกสฟ์) ได้หารือร่วมกัน ในที่สุดก็ได้ทางออก พร้อมได้ข้อสรุปว่า จะร่วมกันตั้งคณะกรรมการกลางขึ้นมา 1 ชุด ประกอบด้วย ผู้แทนสมาคมมวยไทย 2 สมาคม, ตัวแทนโอซีเอและไกสฟ์ ร่วมกันคัดเลือกนักกีฬาทีมชาติไทยจากทั้ง 2 สมาคม และเมื่อได้ตัวนักกีฬาแล้ว คณะกรรมการโอลิมปิกแห่งประเทศไทย จะเป็นผู้ส่งเข้าแข่งขันในนามทีมชาติไทย หลังจากนั้น ไกสฟ์จะเร่งดำเนินการให้ สหพันธ์กีฬานานาชาติที่เป็นสมาชิกให้การรับรองการแข่งขันกีฬาแต่ละชนิดในกีฬาเอเชี่ยนมาร์เชียลอาร์ตเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 1 ที่ไทยจะเป็นเจ้าภาพด้วย
