The organizer of the second world amateur muaythai championship is holding a mass Wai Khru ceremony that is performed by the fighters of 42 nations who are competing in the tournament.

“The Department of Physical Education is aware of the quality standard of muaythai, which is Thailand’s national martial arts. So, it has applied sport science in muaythai development, using techniques like weight management and care of fighter,” said the department chief, Sombat Kuruphan.

“Another important thing for the muaythai officials and fighters is the knowledge on Wai Khru ceremony. So the department has held a Wai Khru ceremony for international muaythai teachers on March 25.”

The event was held at Nimibutr Indoor National Stadium in Bangkok, the venue of the championship event that has been officially launched on March 20.

He said the ceremony, performed by trainers and fighters of 42 nations that participated in the championship, aimed at honoring legendary muaythai figure Nai Khanom Tom.

The second world amateur muaythai championship is hosting events for various categories including males, females, youths, and “semi-professionals” or those who are about to turn professional.

ตามที่กรมพลศึกษา กระทรวงการท่องเที่ยวและกีฬาจัดการแข่งขันมวยไทยสมัครเล่นนานาชาติ ครั้งที่ 2 ประจำปี 2553 ระหว่างวันที่ 20-26 มีนาคม 2553 ณ อาคารกีฬานิมิบุตร มีนักกีฬา  42  ประเทศเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันนั้น นายสมบัติ  คุรุพันธ์  อธิบดีกรมพลศึกษา  กล่าวว่า กรมพลศึกษา ตระหนักถึงความมีมาตรฐานของศิลปะมวยไทย ซึ่งเป็นศิลปะประจำชาติไทย จึงได้นำเอาวิชาการด้านวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬามาพัฒนากีฬามวยไทย เช่นการ ควบคุมน้ำหนัก การให้น้ำ การดูแลนักมวยที่ถูกต้อง อีกอย่างหนึ่งที่มีความสำคัญ สำหรับเจ้าหน้าที่ , นักกีฬาทุกคนคือการไหว้ครูและครอบครูมวยไทย กรมพลศึกษาจึงกำหนดจัดพิธีไหว้ครูและครอบครูมวยไทยโลก ในวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 25  มีนาคม 2553 เริ่มเวลา 08.00 น. ที่ลานเอนกประสงค์ หน้าอาคารกีฬานิมิต  จะมีเจ้าหน้าที่ , ผู้ฝึกสอน และนักกีฬาทั้ง 42 ประเทศ ประมาณ 400 คนเข้าร่วมในพิธี  วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อรำลึกถึง  นายขนมต้ม บรมครูมวยไทย, ครูอาจารย์ที่สอนมวยไทย มาตั้งแต่บรรพบุรุษ พิธีนี้เป็นพิธีอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ที่มีความสำคัญกับนักมวยทุกคนซึ่งจะมีการมอบเสื้อและมงคลให้กับนักมวยอีกด้วย

การแข่งขันมวยไทยสมัครเล่นนานาชาติ ครั้งที่ 2 วันที่24-26 มีนาคม 2553 เป็นการแข่งขันในรอบรองชนะเลิศ  เริ่มเวลา 13.00 น. การแข่งขันมีประเภทชาย , หญิง , ประเภทเยาวชนและ    ประเภทกึ่งอาชีพ (กลุ่มที่จะขึ้นชกอาชีพ)
