ที่อาคารรัฐสภา คณะกรรมาธิการการกีฬา วุฒิสภา จัดประชุมสัมมนา ทิศทางการก้าวเดินกีฬามวยไทย อดีต ปัจจุบัน และอนาคต มี พล.อ.พิจิตร กุลละวณิชย์ องคมนตรี เป็นประธาน การอภิปราย สภาพปัญหาอุปสรรค ทิศทางการพัฒนาและส่งเสริมกีฬามวยไทยในประเทศ

ที่ประชุม หลายคนเห็นว่ารูปแบบการแข่งขันมวยไทยปัจจุบันไม่ตื่นเต้น ปล้ำตีเข่าจนน่าเบื่อ ซึ่งตัวแทนหัวหน้าค่ายมวย เผยว่า พยายามฝึกมวยให้ใช้ศิลปะมวยไทย แต่เมื่อนำขึ้นไปใช้กลับถูกต่อว่าต่อขานเป็นมวยทะเล ถึงเวลานี้ตนจึงต้องฝึกสอนมวยให้ขึ้นชกเพื่อชัยชนะ เน้นความแข็งแกร่ง สนองต่อกระแสของแฟนมวย

จากนั้นมีการประชุมกลุ่มย่อย ให้แต่ละฝ่ายได้พูดคุยถึงปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้น หัวหน้าคณะมวยรายหนึ่งเผยถึง อัตราค่าตัวของนักมวยที่ได้รับอยู่ตกต่ำกว่าอดีต ที่เป็นเช่นนี้เพราะโปรโมเตอร์มีค่าใช้จ่ายมาก ส่วนหนึ่งมาจากค่าใช้จ่ายที่อยู่นอกเหนือจากค่าเช่าเวที มีการนำเอาค่าใช้จ่ายจากการถูกขอความร่วมมือ จากเวทีต้นสังกัดงาน ในงานการกุศลต่าง ๆ แล้วมอบให้โปรโมเตอร์มาคิดเป็นค่าใช้จ่ายในการจัด ส่งให้การจัดมีรายได้น้อยลง และส่งผลมายังค่าตัวนักมวยที่ต้องลดต่ำลงด้วย

แม้กระทั่งมวยต่างจังหวัด ยังเจอปัญหา เนื่องจาก พ.ร.บ.กีฬามวย ระบุให้นักมวยจะต้องมีบัตรประจำตัว และต้องมีการกำหนดอายุนักมวยที่จะขึ้นชก แต่ในความจริงยังมีนักมวยอีกมากที่ยังไม่มีบัตร รวมทั้ง นักมวยรุ่นใหม่ที่เพิ่งเริ่มต้นชกอายุยังน้อยไม่ถึงเกณฑ์ที่กำหนด ซึ่งตรงนี้โปรโมเตอร์จะต้องเสียเบี้ยรายทางมาก หากไม่มีการเสียค่าใช้จ่ายพิเศษให้ ก็จัดนักมวยเหล่านี้ขึ้นชกไม่ได้.
