Manus Boonjumnong is an Olympic hero who made a new historic record for Thailand and the Thai amateur boxing sport with his Olympic gold medal in Athens in 2004 and a silver in Beijing in 2008.

In addition to the Olympic wins, Manus has had excellent performances at the various SEA Games and Asian Games.

Such a successful amateur boxer like him is living quite a comfortable life with monthly allowance of about 50,000 Baht from the Sport Authority of Thailand and at least two other sponsors.

But the question at the moment is whether the 29-year-old amateur star would last long enough for the Olympic London Games in 2012.

Overall, it is probably possible for him to compete in London.

But only time can tell if he would be able to capture another Olympic success.

After all, his senior Somjit Jongjorhor was 33 when he won a gold medal from the Beijing Games.

But that was a different circumstance, and definitely a different motivation.

For Somjit, the Beijing Games was his last chance for an Olympic glory.

Manus, however, wanted to create a new record of his own, as well as gaining some handsome prize to restart his personal life that had earlier crumbled soon after winning the gold.

He indeed reached the place where no Thai had ever been to: winning two Olympic medals from two consecutive games. Now, he is hesitating and asking himself whether it is worth it for him to go through all this again as an amateur boxer.

There are times Manus feels like turning back from the sport and leaving the hero title behind so that he could turn professional, following the steps of many of his seniors.

But he knows the path of professional boxing will not be easy, not even for him.

Some may have become a world champion, but others only fight in much less glorious career, simply because they have to feed themselves.

So, it is not surprising Manus is waving between his choices.

He has been bored, but he has been yearning too.

All of this analysis should explain how he feels.

But eventually it will be only him who can decide for himself.

Manus will have to choose his own path.

เลาะสนาม "มนัส"...เบื่อๆ อยากๆ

เป็นฮีโร่โอลิมปิกที่สร้างประวัติศาสตร์หน้าใหม่ให้กับประเทศไทย และวงการมวยสมัครเล่น สำหรับ "เจ้าเติ้ล"มนัส บุญจำนงค์ เจ้าของเหรียญทองกีฬาโอลิมปิก 2004 ที่กรุงเอเธนส์ ประเทศกรีซ และเหรียญเงินโอลิมปิก 2008 ที่กรุงปักกิ่ง สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน

นอกเหนือจากจะทำผลงานโดดเด่นในโอลิมปิกเกมส์แล้ว ในระดับซีเกมส์ หรือเอเชี่ยนเกมส์ ผลงานถือว่ายอดเยี่ยมและเจ๋งจริง!!

วันนี้ "มนัส" มีชีวิตที่สุขสบาย เพราะลำพังเงินเดือนจากโอลิม ปิคไทยฯ การกีฬาแห่งประเทศ บริษัทโอสถสภา จำกัด 3 หน่วยงาน(ร่วมๆ 5 หมื่นบาท) ก็อยู่ได้แบบไม่เดือดร้อน

ถามว่าอนาคตของนักชกผู้สร้างประวัติศาสตร์หน้าใหม่ให้กับวงการมวยเสื้อกล้ามไทย ที่อายุเพียง 29 ปี จะยืนระยะไปจนถึงโอลิมปิก 2012 ได้หรือไม่

เรื่องนี้ถ้ามองโดยภาพรวมก็คงจะไหว!!

แต่ผลงานจะออกมาดีแค่ไหน อันนี้วันเวลาเท่านั้นที่จะบ่งชี้ได้

เพราะหากย้อนกลับไปดูนักชกรุ่นพี่อย่าง สมจิตร จงจอหอ ที่คว้าเหรียญทองในคราวเดียวกับที่ "มนัส" ได้เหรียญเงิน ณ ตอนนั้น "สมจิตร" อายุก็ย่างเข้า 33 ปีเข้าไปแล้ว

แต่มันต่างกรรม ต่างความรู้สึก!!

สถานะ ณ ตอนนั้น "สมจิตร" คือรถไฟเที่ยวสุดท้ายของเกมนักสู้บนสังเวียนกับโอลิมปิก รวมถึงทีมชาติ

ในขณะที่ "มนัส" ต้องการสร้างประวัติศาสตร์หน้าใหม่ พร้อมกับเงินรางวัลเพื่อเริ่มต้นนับหนึ่งใหม่กับชีวิตที่ล้มเหลว หลังจากขึ้นอยู่บนจุดสูงสุดเมื่อคราวคว้าเหรียญทองก่อนหน้านี้

วันนี้ หลังจากก้าวมาถึงจุดสูงสุดของชีวิตอีกครั้ง ในฐานะผู้สร้างประวัติศาสตร์หน้าใหม่คว้าเหรียญรางวัล 2 สมัยติดต่อกัน "มนัส" เริ่มลังเลและถามตัวเองกับอนาคตบนเส้นทางของนักชกมวยสมัครเล่น เพราะหลายครั้ง เขาไม่รู้ว่าควรที่จะกัดฟันสู้ต่อไปดีหรือไม่

เนื่องจากบางอารมณ์ "มนัส" มีความรู้สึกที่ต้องการจะหันหลังและเดินหนีจากตำแหน่งนักชกผู้สร้างประวัติศาสตร์

พร้อมกับจะไปเอาดีกับเส้นทางของนักมวยอาชีพ เฉกเช่นนักชกรุ่นพี่หลายๆ คนที่ผ่านมา

ซึ่งตัวของ "มนัส" ก็รู้ดีว่ามันไม่ได้โรยด้วยกลีบกุหลาบ อย่างแน่นอน

แม้บางคนในอดีตจะเคยก้าวไปถึงจุดสูงสุดในฐานะแชมป์โลก

แต่บางคนก็ต้องชกแบบก้มหน้าก้มตา รับสภาพเพื่อเลี้ยงชีวิตตัวเองไปวันๆ

ถึงวันนี้จึงไม่ใช่เรื่องแปลกที่ "มนัส" เริ่มจะลังเลและสับสนตัวเอง ว่า จะเอายังไงดีกับอนาคตของนักมวยบนสังเวียนนักสู้

เพราะหลายครั้งรู้สึกเบื่อๆ อยากๆ อย่างบอกไม่ถูก

ซึ่งทั้งหมด ก็คงจะเป็นแง่มุมและความรู้สึกของ "มนัส"

แต่มันจะจบลงอย่างไร เรื่องนี้ "มนัส" คนเดียวเท่านั้น

ที่จะตัดสินใจเลือกทางเดินของตัวเอง!!
