The ongoing anti and pro-government protests on Ratchadamnern Avenue have scared away at least half of the would-be spectators at Ratchadamnern Stadium. The muaythai promoters are heavily affected as they could do nothing but praying for the situation to return to normalcy. The optimistic and risk-taking promoter Sommai Bangkapi, however, shocked the other promoters by announcing that his scheduled event would not be cancelled, no matter what.
Promoter Noi Muangnon may no longer hold free events at the Abbloom Stadium despite the considerably large crowd who showed up. Noi’s current event will be the last. Let’s hope his sponsors will change his minds after seeing the number of the spectators at the matches. Or Noi will no longer have an excuse to visit the girls at Nawa Nakorn.
National athlete Somjit Jingjorhor is also a national hope for Thailand. He has won many gold medals in various international boxing events such as the Asian Games, Military Boxing Games, World Cup, World Championship, to name a few. But there is one gold medal he has not won – the Olympics. He will have his third try at the Beijing games this year. Rumors say he has already visited all the sacred shrines around the country to ask for the medal. May the blessings be with him.
The Thai people are said to be superstitious. The muaythai people, in particular, are inclined to adopt a more auspicious name when there seems to be troubles in life. That is the reason judge “Cherdchai Srirat” changed his name to “Cherdcharnnon Sricharat” recently. Best lucks to Cherdcharnon. If his name change can boost his career, perhaps the judges at Mo Chit should change their names too.
