Expert's opinion: Bancha Ondee talks about upcoming events this week

The followings are from the interview with sport reporter and muaythai analyst Bancha Ondee who was asked to discuss about the upcoming muaythai matches of the upcoming week.

“Hello to all readers of muaymag.com. Up to this moment, the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) is still holding an anti-government protest near Makkawarn Rangsan Bridge and Ratchadamnern Stadium. Although the government and police have guaranteed safety of the stadium spectators, especially the foreign tourists, but the protest has caused a great concern that a confrontation would occur anyway.”

“Unlike Lumpini and other stadiums, Ratchadamnern had never been popular with the international spectators to begin with. The PAD protest even lowered the number in a recent event to only 16 international spectators, the lowest number ever for Ratchadamnern.”

“Several days ago, the promoters of the stadium as well as the fighters were staging their own protest against the PAD who caused them to lose money from the matches.”

“Interestingly, many people believe that good events will always get good crowds. The Sor Sommai event, for example, got a great crowd and was able to generate 1.1 million Baht despite its tickets that were priced as low as 200 Baht.”

“For the upcoming week, there will be an event of promoter “Sia Yang” or Surapon Naratrikoon on Tuesday June 17 at Lumpini Stadium. The star match already has a million Baht bet. This amount is rare for muaythai matches.”

“The match will feature the kneeing-style champion Pen-ek Sitnoomnoi who has won nine consecutive fights over tough fighters including Rakkiat Kiatprapat and Chalermpol Sit Sor Nong. His opponent will be Rungrat Naratrikoon who has once received the highest pay of his weight class.”

“Pen-ek and Rungrat are both Southerners. Their power, skills and physical advantages are pretty much of the same level. Each of them also has a lot of supporters. Now they will have a chance to prove who will be the better Southern fighter. ”

“The other matches on June 17 at Lumpini will feature Yod Super Naratrikoon vs Dendanai P.A.P. Gym, and Kongbeng Kor Rungsritong vs. Nong Aun Sitmorlam Sombat. I would like to invite everyone to come to this event. ”

“For Ratchadamnern Stadium, there are muaythai matches as usual but the promoters are risking losses if they organized big events. The stadium is still holding muaythai matches on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, but I would not discuss the matches there as most people would rather go to other stadiums.”

“However, I would like to confirm that the situation at Ratchadamnern Stadium is still safe for the muaythai spectators despite the political rally.”
“That’s all for this week talk with me, Bancha Ondee. Good bye.”
