Priyakorn says Onesongchai broadcast not affected by new NBT management
Written by Varut, Editor: Wissawa
Friday, 04 July 2008

The recent vying for airtime slot of government television network NBT has put Onesongchai promoters in a defensive position.

Live broadcasts of muaythai matches are a lucrative business in Thailand. In addition to the satellite-based channels, all the national terrestrial networks have invested in live broadcast of muaythai.

The Muaythai Jet Si event is broadcasted on Channel Seven network, Suek Chao Muaythai on Channel Three, Lumpini Kirkkrai on Channel Five, Suek Assawain Dam on Channel Nine, and Suek Onesongchai on Channel Eleven, now renamed as the NBT network.

Each of the networks is typically associated with a particular muaythai promoter. They are long-term business partners with the promoter providing matches of the best fighters they could find and the network guaranteeing a prime airtime slot for the event.

Yutthajak to fight Yodbua-ngam in rematch at Lumpini this Tuesday
Written by Varut, Editor: Wissawa
Thursday, 03 July 2008

Yutthajak Kaewsamrid will fight Yodbua-ngam Lukbanyai in a rematch on Tuesday July 8 at Lumpini Stadium.

The two fighters earlier had fought each other at an event in Sra Kaew. They took turns gaining the advantage but Yutthajak, believing he would win, decided to hold back. Yodbua-ngam ended up as the winner by scores.

As many muaythai fans consider the match not conclusive, promoters Shane Muangchon and Pramuk Rotchanatan arranged for the two to fight in a rematch in the upcoming Lumpini event.

The event will also feature Thepnakorn Or Kwanmuang vs. Mekpayak Lukhuanghin, Orono Por Chandaeng vs. Sitthichai Lietsompob, Rungruengchai Daosriburi vs. Sinchainoi Sor Kittichai, Srakaew Por Pramuk vs. Weerayutlek Himalaigym, Diesellek Petsirigym vs. Yardfa Kaewkraisorn, Rungthanasap Wor Wiwattananon vs. Kongponbin P.K.P. Rachanon, Muangchang Por Pramuk vs. Petrung Karnsaenggym, Yasothorn Jor Saenpakdee vs. an unnamed Australian fighter.

Daughter's return to business may help Songchai handle staff losses
Written by Varut, Editor: Wissawa
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

Promoter Songchai Rattanasuban’s recent losses of several long-time staff members and star fighters may be placated by his daughter’s decision to return to muaythai industry.

Songchai, although successful with his career, is losing many of his staff members, most notably Yongyut Lerwisit or “Go Lai”, who took with him fighter Nong Bee Kietyongyut, and commentator Pa Hinkong who mysteriously disappeared from his radio show. Songchai is currently acting as the commentator himself.

However, Songchai’s daughter Priyakorn Rattanasuban, who has a business of her own, is returning to help her father’s business as a promoter.

Priyakorn is planning to penetrate the international market of female muaythai. She trying setting up an international female muaythai association with some of her colleagues from various countries including Czech Republic, Russia, Japan, Hong Kong, Laos, South Korea and the Philippines.

Priyakorn’s muaythai association will work closely with the Woman International Boxer Association (WIBA) on the ranking system.

Expert's opinion: Bancha Wangdee talks about upcoming events this week
Written by Varut, Editor: Wissawa
Sunday, 29 June 2008

The followings are from the interview with sport reporter and muaythai analyst Bancha Wangdee who would discuss the upcoming muaythai matches of this week.

“Hello to Mauymag.com readers. I, Bancha Ondee, is back to talk to you again. There have not been any four- or five-star muaythai events recently, neither at Ratchadamnern Stadium nor Lumpini Stadium. But this month will start with a grand event, almost a four star one, on July 1 at Lumpini Stadium. The reason I did not give it a four star was that some of the fighters have not fought each others before. Some of the fighters were transferred from Ratchadamnern Stadium, while the others have fought at Lumpini, but not in this event.”

“So on July 1, there is Suek Saeng Morakot event of promoter ‘Ja Tui’ who had recently changed his real name from Titipong Umanan to Akkapong Umanan. He will charge, for the first time in the 10 years of his promoter career, 250, 500, and 2000 Baht for the tickets.”

“The top match will be Saketdao Petphayathai vs. Nong Dee Kietyongyut. Nong Dee used to fight for promoter Songchai Rattanasuban, now he is a fighter of Ban Ponlamuang Dee Group of Khun Chum who is the boss of Ja Tui. This match will be interesting as both fighters are muaythai superstars. We will see whether Nong Dee, who is more senior, will be able to take down the hot newcomer Saketdao who has won last year’s Best Fighter Award of the Sport Authority of Thailand.”

“The next match will feature former champion Chomthong Chuwattana and newer fighter Tukkatathong Petphayathai. This is an honored fight of the senior and the junior.”

Prawit's event reinstated to Lumpini Stadium schedule
Written by Varut, Editor: Wissawa

  O-tue

Promoter Prawit Kongtongsamut’s bimonthly “Suek Jarumuang” event at Lumpini Stadium has been reliable and popular for muaythai fans. The stadium executives and his mentor promoter Chucharoen Rawee-aramwong, too, have been satisfied with Prawit’s event.

So it was a surprise when a Suek Jarumuang event was missing from the Lumpini schedule.

Prawit or “O-tue” is known to be content with his status in Thailand but he has recently started to expand his operations abroad. He went to England last month with his fighter Samsamut Kietkaochong who fought and lost to Liam Harrison there. The promoter completely forgot he was supposed to attend a meeting with the Lumpini executives for event allotments.

Not seeing Prawit present among the promoters in the meeting, the Lumpini executives simply cancelled one of the Suek Jarumuang supposed allotments. Prawit reportedly went straight from the airport to the stadium once he arrived in Thailand to ask for the missing event to be reinstated.

Luckily, his plea was granted.
