Thai boxing society is in long lasting turmoil when court of arbitration for sport in Switzerland has issued protection order for amateur boxing association of Thailand in royal patronage. It also suspended AIBA’s judgment until the prosecution has completed.

The International Boxing Association or AIBA disqualified the amateur boxing association of Thailand in royal patronage from its membership for the reason that it did not rearrange an election as ordered by AIBA within 30th June. There was complaint of suspicion in the election on 27th March, causing Sports Authority of Thailand or SAT ordered it to remove the suffix, “of Thailand”. Currently, it is rearranging election for a new association president within the end of July.

Lately, on 15th July, court of arbitration for sport in Switzerland issued protection order for membership of amateur boxing association of Thailand in royal patronage. It also suspended AIBA’s judgment until the prosecution has completed by the court. Regarding to this, all boxers and staffs of amateur boxing association of Thailand are able to participate all AIBA-approved competitions.

In consideration of the court of arbitration according to the petition for temporary protection, evidences and documents were checked as initially requested. It identified that revoking membership of amateur boxing association of Thailand ordered by AIBA for the reason that it did not rearrange an election within 30 June 2010 as ordered by AIBA was considered invalid. Election belongs to domestic law, which requires complete juridical process. Particularly, section 14.1 of AIBA’s law stated that, “member countries must prevent external interference on election and assignment”. The attempt of AIBA to link its law might be because of its personnel and other parties both inside and outside of the country. They might have mutual interest and oppose against General Taweep Jantararoj and the current board of executive. Their political aim is to change all association executives.

The decision of AIBA in revoking membership causes boxers and coaches not able to attend the competitions. This is considered deprivation of one’s primary right. In accordance with section 4 of international Olympic principle, “Practice of sports is the right of human. Individual has his own power to manage his own sport without being limited any right in accordance with the international Olympic rule considering on the understanding on the spirit of friendship and unity and fair practice”. Moreover, the amateur boxing association of Thailand, which has made reputation for world amateur boxing society, will be obstructed in its future development for sport society.
