Column by Songchai Rattanasuban for Kom Chad Luk newspaper
I visited Deputy Tourism and Sports Minister Dr Nat Indrapana and consulted with him about the construction for the World Muay Thai Monument. It’s unbelievable that apart from an agreement he has reached, he also suggested me that I submit the Government the project in time before the Government’s working term will soon expire.
He said that there is nothing to worry about the construction location because the monument is very important to the country and the future. Who will initiate the project if we don’t start now. Muay Thai has already gained popularity among countries and our neighbours also claimed that Muay Thai was originated in their countries. Therefore, we should start the project now - construct the Muay Thai Monument in celebration for the anniversary of HM the King’s 80th birthday. It will not only become one of the tourists’ attractions, but also one of the important places worldwide tourists will see the importance. The monument will then be one of the Thailand’s symbol as long as possible. I am a man who never stops thinking in life. Fans and I stood chances of hosting Muay Thai competitions and I, therefore, also have chances of constructing important places. At first, I was a part in constructing Mondob (the highest object of Ubosot, the Luangpor Sothorn Temple). Secondly, the proceeds were brought to buy tiles for ubosot of the Luangpor Sothorn Temple. I would like to say that there are more about constructing temples. I would like to offer proposals to the Rajdamnoen Stadium. First, they have to regain confidence among fans that the referees and promoters of the stadium can be trusted. Second, in front of the stadium should be decorated in Thai identity and Thai designs should be painted by experts from Fine Arts Department. Third, the seats for foreign spectators, the vacant ringside, should be covered by mirrors. The room should be kept for VIP guests, attached by close-circuit TVs. Drink and supper service should also be available for guests. Admission for this room is Bt3,000 per head. Fourth, Rajdamnoen Stadium must be the World Muay Thai Stadium. It should be a stage for all worldwide promoters to bring their fighters here. With the stadium’s cability and well-known promoters, I believe everything will soon be okay.
