The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has confirmed that Thailand’s Thangthong Kiattaweesuk will get to challenge bantamweight title holder Joseph Agbeko of Ghana within this year, says his promoter.

Promoter Ekkarat Chaichotchuang said he is preparing the Pan-Pacific champion Thangthong for the world title by studying Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and following his path. He said he would persuade Pacquiao’s trainer Freddy Roach to help the Thai boxer.

Tuesday, 17 March 2009

Devid

The fight of Devid Lookmahanak and Nouldy Manakane has been cancelled due to the illness of the former boxer and will be replaced by the match of Naphapol Kiatisakchokchai and Andrianus Kauni as the top match for the event in Trang on March 20.

Thailand’s Devid was scheduled to fight Indonesia’s Manakane for the WBC Asia flyweight title this Friday, but promoter Suchart Pisitwutthinan of Nakornluang Promotion has cancelled it as the Thai boxer is now sick with flu. The promoter has replaced the anticipated match with that of the WBC Asia super featherweight match of Thai Naphapol and Indonesian Kauni, earlier planned on April 3.

Suchart pointed out Naphapol’s match will be as crucial as Devid’s as he is scheduled to challenge for a world title later this year.

Tatsuyoshi

Tatsuyoshi, a former WBC world bantamweight title holder, was knocked out by the relatively unknown Thai boxer Sakai Jockygym in the seventh round of the match held at Rajadamnern in Bangkok on Sunday March 8.

The 38-year-old Japanese was forced into retirement by the JBC in September last year for health issues, but a month later appeared in Thailand to fight in a bout against Palangchai Chuwattana. He won by knockout in the second round.

The match, if realized, would be the third time the two former champions fight each other. In their first fight in 1998, Veeraphol defeated then-champion Tatsuyoshi and took the WBC title from him.
