Denkaosan to defend title from Hisataka this month

WBA flyweight champion Denkaosan Kaovichit of Thailand will defend his title from Japanese challenger Hiroyuki Hisataka on May 26.

According to a press conference in Bangkok yesterday, the event at the central stadium in Uttaradit, Thailand, will include the title defense bout of Denkaosan and Hisataka as well as the fight of Thailand’s 19-year-old rising star Fonluang Sor Tanapinyo and Indonesia’s Safwan Lombok.
 
Denkaosan’s manager Niwat Laosuwannawat said there would be no further trouble for the Thai boxer regarding the high-profile rift of him and promoter Naris Singwangcha.

Veeraphol not retired, hopes to fight Tatsuyoshi

The 40-year-old former world boxing champion Veeraphol Sahaprom has not retired as he hopes to fight his long-time nemesis Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, says his promoter.

Thailand’s Veeraphol, who is scheduled to fight Ansori Anhar of Indonesia on Friday May 29 in the northeastern Thai town of Kalasin, has once left the sport but only returned to the ring, aiming for another rematch with Tatsuyoshi, now 38, according to promoter Suchart Pisitwutthinan.

Ratanapol takes PABA flyweight belt, Wisanu retains title

PABA light flyweight champion Wisanu Pornobnum has knocked out challenger Agus Situmorang, while Ratanapol Sor Vorapin has claimed another PABA belt after beating Wido Paez, also in a knockout, in the same event in Phatthalung yesterday.

The two matches of Thai vs. Indonesian boxers, held in Kuankhanun in the southern Thai province of Phatthalung on Thursday May 7, ended with victories for both Thai boxers. Wisanu has retained his title by knocking out Situmorang in the second round, while former world champion Ratanapol put Paez down in the third round, claiming the previously vacant flyweight title of PABA.

Thangthong to defend IBF title against Ogah

IBF Pan Pacific bantamweight title holder Thangthong Kiattaweesuk will fight Indonesian challenger Irfan Ogah, while Wacharakrit Senaharn and Hero Arema will contend for the vacant IBF junior lightweight title.

The two matches will be held at Bangkok Thonburi University in Bangkok at 3.00 p.m. on Friday May 15. The top fight of the event will be that of Thai champion Thangthong and challenger Ogah, which would be followed by the bout of Thailand’s Wacharakrit and Indonesia’s Arema for the vacant title.

The Thai boxers’ promoter Ekkarat Chaichotchuang said Thangthong, a former national boxing athlete, is currently under an intensive training session to prepare for the upcoming bout, while commenting that the challenger must not be underestimated.

Thai challenger O A Lookkaerai has just lost her title bid against WBC female light flyweight champion Naomi Togashi of Japan, but her fellow gymmate Buarimbueng Kokietgym will get a chance to challenge Japanese belt holder Momo Koseki.

O A lost to Togashi by decision in a match at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on May 2, while atomweight champion Koseki beat fellow Japanese pugilist and challenger Nao Ikeyama in the same event.

Thai boxer O A Lookkaerai will challenge WBC female light flyweight champion Naomi Togashi of Japan today.

O A and Togashi passed the weighting by the Japan Boxing Commission yesterday with the same weight of 107.36 pounds, and are ready for the match at Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, on May 2. The Thai pugilist said she has been prepare herself well but believed that beating the 38-year-old Japanese champion would be difficult for her.

"Wining or losing is one matter, but friendship is more important," said O A, adding that she would do the best of her ability in the fight.

Thai boxer Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym has claimed the WBA "interim" super bantamweight title after beating Venezuela's Rafael Hernandez by a technical knockout in the ninth round.

Poonsawat led an aggressive game against the taller Hernandez throughout the nine rounds at the match held at Mor Seng building in Pathumthani in Thailand on Thursday  April 30. Taken many hits to the body, Hernadez began to show signs he could no longer hold hmself up, and the referee decided to end the fight in the nineth round, effectively allowing Poonsawat to win with a technical knockout.

Thai boxer Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym will fight Venezuela's Rafael Hernandez today for the WBA "interim" super bantamweight title.

Poonsawat, currently the top contender in the WBA super bantamweight class, will fight seventh-place Hernandez in at Mor Seng building in Pathumthani in Thailand on Thursday April 30. The event will be broadcasted in Thailand by the Channel Three network from 2.00 p.m. onward.

Poonsawat's promoter Niwat Laosuwannawat said he believed in the neutrality of the three judges of the match who were selected by the WBA which would help to ensure the fairness of the match, although he pointed out that the referee is relatively inexperienced. The promoter said the Thai boxer would gain advantage mostly from the familiar environment.

The WBC title bout of Mexico’s Ana Maria Torres and Thailand’s Usanakorn Kokietgym planned in Mexico on May 31 has been postponed due to the outbreak of swine flu.

Usanakorn, who earned her WBC female “interim” super flyweight title from defeating Japan’s Rie Fujimoto in March, was earlier scheduled to fight non-interim title holder Ana Maria Torres in Mexico City on May 31, but the Mexican promoter has decided to postpone the match to June 14, citing the current outbreak of swine flu that has resulted in more than a hundred of deaths.

Thai boxer Pongsaklek Wonjongkam has defeated Julio Cesar Miranda of Mexico to earn himself the WBC “interim” flyweight title in a match at Chachoengsao, Thailand, yesterday.

Miranda began an aggressive game since in the first round, but Pongsaklek was apt at countering him with hits to the face and body. In the middle of the second round, the Thai took a right hook to the face and nearly fell for the count. He quickly recovered, however, and by the end of the next round was already in control of the bout.

In the fourth round, the bout was halted as Miranda was injured near his left eye, but the doctor allowed him to continue the fight. From then on, Pongsaklek was utilizing his faster, more accurate punches to score points from hitting Miranda's body. After 12 rounds, the Thai boxer won the bout with unanimous decision of 117-111, 119-110, and 118-109, was granted the WBC "interim" flyweight title as well as some handsome prize from the sponsors.
