General Taweep Jantararoj has been re-elected the president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand (ABAT) and has delivered his policies for the next four years, which include an aim for successes at the 2012 London Games.

General Taweep has begun his fourth term as the ABAT president after 15 members of the executive committee and the 37 representatives of the affiliated sport clubs in the ABAT meeting held at the Defence Energy Department on January 24 have unanimously voted for him in an uncontested election.

Upon the appointment as the ABAT chief, General Taweep delivered his policy to the meeting participants which stated that the association’s ultimate goal will be winning the London Olympic Games in 2012.   

However, he said ABAT will also aims for “the best performance” in the various upcoming tournaments including Thailand’s king’s cup in April, the Asian championship in June, the world championship in Milan, Italy, in September, the SEA Games in Laos in December, and the first youth Olympic Games in Singapore in the next year.     

The ABAT chief said the athletes of various national boxing squads, including two main male teams, two youth teams, and a female team, have been summoned to the training camp.

He said the second male team and the youth teams, rather than the top male team, will be sent to compete in the minor tournaments, as the top team might scare off some other countries who may decide not to send their athletes to the events. However, the ABAT chief would require each of the Thai athletes, regardless of the team, to fight in at least four events per year in order to improve their strength.

The general is also planning to develop Thai coaches of various levels, ranging from the national squad trainers to their university and school counterparts, to enable them to perform to the standards.

He will also try to convince the organizers of the university games that amateur boxing is not a dangerous sport and should be promoted in the games, while also planning to support the community-level boxing by training coaches and supplying  equipments to the local community administrations.

The ABAT will attempt to convince the Cuban authorities to allow Juan Fontanils, the famed Cuban coach who was responsible for the earlier Olympic successes of Thailand, to return to work for the Thai squad together with the current trainer, Omar Malagon.

General Taweep said he regards Fontanils as “the most effective coach” and believes that Cuba would allow him to return to Thailand as it has promised to do so once the coach’s four-year task with the Cuban athletes have been completed.

In addition to the policy delivery of General Taweep, the ABAT has also discussed their works in the past year which include “satisfactory successes” such as the gold and silver Beijing Games medals from Somjit Jongjorhor and Manus Boonjumnong respectively.

According to the report to the meeting participants, the ABAT had a total income of 52.76 million Baht, and a total expense of 53.32 million Baht, resulting in a balance deficit of 0.55 million Baht in 2008.

'บิ๊กทวีป'ไร้คู่แข่งนอนมานั่งนายกฯสมัย 4 ตั้งเป้าทอง อลป.ดึงฮวนกลับไทย
             
ที่ห้องอเนกประสงค์ ชั้น 7 กรมการพลังงานทหาร เมื่อ 24 ม.ค.ที่ผ่านมา"เสธ.ทวีป"พลเอกทวีป จันทรโรจน์ นายกสมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย เป็นประธานประชุมใหญ่สามัญ สมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่นฯ โดยมีวาระสำคัญคือ การเลือกตั้งนายกสมาคมมวยฯ เนื่องจากคณะกรรมการบริหารชุดนี้ได้หมดวาระลงในปีนี้
 
สำหรับวาระอื่น ๆ ที่สำคัญเป็นการสรุปผลงานในรอบปีที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งสรุปว่าประสบความสำเร็จน่าพอใจ ทั้งในด้านการพัฒนาวงการมวยสากลสมัครเล่นของไทย และผลงานของนักกีฬา โดยผลงานในระดับสูงสุดคือการคว้า 1 เหรียญทอง 1 เหรียญเงิน ในกีฬาโอลิมปิก 2008 “ปักกิ่งเกมส์” จาก สมจิตร จงจอหอ และ มนัส บุญจำนงค์ ตามลำดับ ขณะที่งบดุลการเงินของสมาคมฯ ในรอบปีที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งใช้จ่ายในการเก็บตัวนักชก และส่งแข่งขันต่างประเทศ สมาคมฯมีรายได้ 52,761,505.25 บาท และมีรายจ่าย 53,315,303.05 บาท ทำให้มีรายจ่ายสูงกว่ารายได้ 553,798.05 บาท
 
ส่วนวาระสำคัญคือการเลือกตั้งนายก สมาคมฯ ที่ประชุมได้แต่งตั้ง พล.อ.อ.ณพฤษภ์ มัณฑะจิตร ทำหน้าที่ประธานในการเลือกตั้ง โดยผู้มีสิทธิออกเสียงโหวตเลือกตั้ง เป็นคณะกรรมการบริหารสมาคมฯ 19 คน ที่มาประชุมครั้งนี้ 16 คน แต่ “เสธ.ทวีป” งดออกเสียง ทำให้เหลือ 15 คน และสโมสรสมาชิก 41 สโมสร ที่มาเข้าร่วมประชุม 37 สโมสร รวมทั้งหมด 52 เสียง มีผู้เสนอ “เสธ.ทวีป” ขึ้นเป็นนายกสมาคมฯ เพียงคนเดียว และมีผู้รับรองทั้ง 52 เสียง ทำให้ “เสธ.ทวีป” ได้รับเลือกตั้งให้ดำรงตำแหน่งนายกสมาคมมวยฯ เป็นสมัยที่ 4 ติดต่อกันทันที
 
หลังได้รับการเลือกตั้งเป็นนายกสมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่นฯ อีกครั้ง “เสธ.ทวีป” ได้แถลงนโยบายว่า เป้าหมายหลักของสมาคมฯ คือการสร้างนักมวยไปคว้าเหรียญทองโอลิมปิกอีกครั้งในกีฬาโอลิมปิก 2012 “ลอนดอนเกมส์” ที่กรุงลอนดอน ประเทศอังกฤษ ซึ่งเหลือเวลาอีก 3 ปีเศษ แต่ระหว่างเส้นทางสู่โอลิมปิก ก็มีงานใหญ่รออยู่ ได้แก่ศึกมวยชิงถ้วยพระราชทานคิงสคัพ ในเดือน เม.ย., ศึกมวยชิงแชมป์เอเชีย ในเดือน มิ.ย.นี้, มวยเวิลด์แชมเปี้ยนชิพ 2009 ที่มิลาน ประเทศอิตาลี ในเดือน ก.ย. และมวยซีเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 25 ช่วงต้น ธ.ค. นี้ ที่ประเทศลาว รวมทั้งมวยยูธโอลิมปิก ครั้งที่ 1 ปี 2010 หรือปีหน้าที่ประเทศสิงคโปร์ ที่จะต้องสร้างผลงานให้ดีที่สุด

โดยขณะนี้ได้เรียกเก็บตัวนักชกชุดต่าง ๆ หมดแล้ว ได้แก่นักชกชุด A, นักชกชุด B และชุดเยาวชน ที่เตรียมไว้เสริมในโอลิมปิก 2012, นักชกยุวชนชุดยูธโอลิมปิก มวยหญิงชุดซีเกมส์ ซึ่งในซีเกมส์จะให้โอกาสทีมชาติชุด B กับชุดเยาวชนลงหาประสบการณ์ด้วย เนื่องจากถ้าส่งชุดใหญ่ลงแข่งทั้งหมด จะทำให้ชาติอื่นไม่อยากชกด้วย และไม่อยากส่งแข่งในครั้งต่อไป เนื่องจากตอนนี้ไทยเป็นอันดับ 1 ในภูมิภาคนี้ โดยกำหนดว่านักชกทุกชุดต้องได้ชกในต่างประเทศ ไม่ต่ำกว่า 4 รายการต่อคน ต่อปี เพื่อให้มีความแข็งแกร่งมากที่สุด
 
นอกจากนั้น “เสธ.ทวีป” กล่าวว่า จะมีการพัฒนาโค้ชทุกระดับให้มีมาตรฐานใกล้เคียงกัน ทั้งโค้ชทีมชาติ, โค้ชสโมสรสมาชิก, โค้ชของโรงเรียนกีฬา และระดับมหาวิทยาลัย รวมทั้งให้ข้อมูลแก่ทางคณะกรรมการจัดการแข่งขันกีฬามหาวิทยาลัยแห่งประเทศ ไทยด้วยว่า กีฬามวยไม่ได้อันตรายอย่างที่คิด เพื่อจะได้ร่วมกันส่งเสริมต่อไป นอกจากนั้นจะลงลึกไปถึงระดับท้องถิ่น ในการสนับสนุนกีฬามวยของ อบต. ทั้งการอบรมโค้ช และสนับสนุนอุปกรณ์ เพื่อให้มีการพัฒนาในวงกว้างมากขึ้น รวมทั้งรีบดำเนินการดึงโค้ชคิวบา ฮวน ฟอนตาเนียน ที่เคยสร้างนักชกไทยคว้าเหรียญทองโอลิมปิกมาแล้วหลายคน  กลับมาคุมทีมชาติไทยอีกครั้ง ร่วมกับโค้ชคิวบาที่มีอยู่เดิมคือ โอมาร์ มาลากอน เพราะเห็นแล้วว่า ฟอนตาเนียน เป็นโค้ชที่มีประสิทธิภาพมากที่สุด และมั่นใจว่าทางคิวบาจะยอมปล่อยตัว ฟอนตาเนียน มาไทยอีกครั้ง เนื่องจากครบกำหนด 4 ปี ที่ฟอนตาเนียน กลับไปทำงานให้คิวบาแล้ว และทางคิวบาเคยสัญญาว่าจะปล่อยตัวมาไทยอีกครั้ง.
