The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) has ‘temporarily’ lifted its suspension of Thailand’s amateur boxing chief General Taweep Jantararoj from the executive board while waiting the court ruling on the case.

General Taweep Jantararoj was earlier suspended from the executive committee of AIBA, following his criticisms of the neutrality of the association’s judges and officials at the Beijing Games in 2008.

The association was about to make a decision on the appropriate punishment on General Taweep after the suspension, but the Thai chief then filed a case against AIBA to the court in Switzerland where AIBA is located, claiming that the suspension was unfair and unfounded.

The AIBA website now says the suspension on General Taweep is “temporarily not effective” and cited the decision of the Lausanne Civil Court, while AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu told the Thai Olympic officials at the opening of the Olympic Council of Asia office in Kuwait that he personally did not have an issue with General Taweep and understood his action.

However, Wu said the general was trying to discredit AIBA and disrespect him, who only became the AIBA chief recently. According to him, AIBA would not respond to the general but would present its evidence to the court and wait for the ruling.

Wu said he alone does not have the authority to make a decision, as it would also depend on the other board members. He said he regrets the situation as Thailand had been a good supporter of AIBA.

The Thai National Olympic Council president General Yuthasak Sasiprapha told Wu in Kuwait that he was discomfort with the situation and he believed the conflict might have been caused by a misunderstanding.

ปธ.ไอบาชี้รอศาลตัดสินคดีมวย"เสธ.วีป"

สืบ เนื่องจากปัญหาที่ "เสธ.วีป"พลเอกทวีป จันทรโรจน์ นายกสมาคมมวยสมัครเล่นแห่งประเทศไทย วิพากษ์วิจารณ์การตัดสินของผู้ตัดสินมวยสากลสมัครเล่นในโอลิมปิกเกมส์ "ปักกิ่งเกมส์ 2008" จนทางสหพันธ์มวยสากลสมัครเล่นนา นาชาติ (ไอบา) เตรียมสั่งพักงานในฐานะกรรมการบริหารไอบาของพลเอกทวีป โดยมีกำหนดพิจารณาโทษในการประชุมไอบาที่เมืองมิลาน ประเทศอิตาลี เมื่อ ก.พ.ที่ผ่านมา ก่อนที่พลเอกทวีปจะยื่นเรื่องต่อศาลที่ประเทศสวิตเซอร์แลนด์เพื่อขอให้คุ้ม ครองสิทธิ์ดังกล่าว เนื่องจากเห็นว่าการพักงานดังกล่าวเป็นการกระทำเกินกว่าเหตุ และไม่ชอบธรรม ประกอบกับเอกสารหลักฐานที่กล่าวหาตนไม่มีมูล

ล่าสุด ระหว่างการประชุมสมัชชาสภาโอลิมปิกแห่งเอเชีย (โอซีเอ) ที่ประเทศคูเวต พลเอกยุทธศักดิ์ ศศิประภา ประธานคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทย และพลตรีจารึก อารีราชการัณย์ เลขาธิการ ได้มีโอกาสพบปะกับนายชิง กั๊วะ วู ประธานไอบา ซึ่งได้รับเชิญมาร่วมประชุมด้วย โดย พล.อ.ยุทธศักดิ์กล่าว กับประธานไอบาว่า ทางประเทศไทยรู้สึกไม่สบายใจกับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้น เพราะที่ผ่านมาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างไทย สมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่น และไอบา เป็นไปด้วยดีมาตลอด และเรื่องที่เกิดขึ้นอาจจะมีการเข้าใจผิด

นายชิง กล่าวว่า ส่วนตัวตนไม่ติดใจ และเข้าใจการแสดงออกของพล.อ.ทวีปและเจ้าหน้าที่ทีมชาติคนอื่นๆ ซึ่งการประชุมที่มิลาน พลเอกทวีปได้ยื่นต่อศาลระหว่างที่มีการประชุม และกลับให้สัมภาษณ์เกี่ยวกับเรื่องดังกล่าวพยายามดิสเครดิตไอบา ซึ่งตนเพิ่งจะเข้ามาเป็นประธานไอบาสมัยแรกควรจะให้เกียรติกันบ้าง เรื่องนี้ไอบาเองยังไม่มีแนวทางใดๆ ทางไอบาจะรอคำตัดสินจากศาลที่สวิตเซอร์แลนด์ประกอบกับข้อมูลหลักฐานของไอบา อย่างไรก็ตาม ตนเองไม่มีสิทธิ์ขาดในการตัดสินใจ เพราะไอบายังมีคณะกรรมการอีกหลายคน แต่ก็ยอมรับว่ารู้สึกเสียดายเพราะไทยให้การสนับสนุนกิจกรรมของไอบามาตลอด ผลจะออกมาเป็นอย่างไรสุดแล้วแต่คณะกรรมการของไอบา
